The thing with these old gems is that they were almost actual trance inducing pieces of music, in the purest sense of the word and they really owned up to what trance used to be all about and why it was called trance in the first place. It's supposed to take you on a journey where gratification comes gradually and is fulfilled when the journey ends rather than every ten seconds. To me, most of todays trance is essentially a soulless, unrecognizeable soup of larger than life synths, "drops" and zero headroom mixes screaming at you for attention. It's the musical equivalent of a Michael Bay movie. Exciting, but ultimately tasteless.

Some of today's trance is like that. I've heard some really uninspired tracks that want you to feel euphoric. I guess it works on newcomers but not on us seasoned aficionados! Conversely, I have heard some *really* good trance hits that are more recent. Especially from Ferry Corsten and Armin van Buuren. You just have to follow the talent :)

@@timmyhiggins5220 Not really. "A State of Trance" promotes a lot of good tracks, and the more recent "Gaia" album was excellent, in my opinion. Not to mention all of his excellent older hits.

Maybe you'd like my reply... This is a journey of spiritual evolution in the one true language - music! The qualitative language, one of experience alone not things, associations, thoughts, or ultimately could be considered a language without time... Just the NOW the Experience alone. Anyways, this phenomenonal track is a journey through evolution of species from lizard (shadow) through to empathy or euphoric states and the formation of alliances (basic) then onto deeper meaningful connections and friendships as an evolutionary advantageous outcome. Listen and hear the higher evolved emotional states contrasted with the primal, reptilian (shadow self).. DUN DUN DUNDUN. We all contain these elements like it or not... However the human mind seeks integration so the good and bad, yin and Yang balance and complement one another. Without one the other would be useless. Nobody would survive. This track is a fucking masterpiece. Respect.

@@artifactingreality Trance Ejay may well have sampled things from us suppose. Not sure never used it. When the original I Dream was made (1994) Trance was hardly even called a genre (except the Goa stuff that was around). Anyway, we definitely didn’t use any audio in a DAW. Some of the sounds are PCM based off synths, so likely Ejay sampled those. And things like 808s/909s are pretty common place in latter sample packs, virtual instruments & DAWs
