It never ceases to amaze me how many folks won't take the time to figure out basics of simple things. These are the people we will send out as scouts in a zombie apocalypse as we will be needed safe to fix and maintain things to stay alive LoL Great job. Love seeing people get er done.

Great video! I have the exact same engine and tilt trim mechanism. Where did you get the trim motor, what is the part number?
@paulskinner55672 жыл бұрын
Good work!! Would you consider putting a fuse in? If you get some sort of fault it would be good have protection against over loading the cable and causing a fire.

Hi, good idea to put a fuse in it! Thanks!

What gauge wiring did you use? I'm going to do the same thing.

It's usually the up and down relays go bad or get wet.

Thank you so much for making this. Seriously. Amazing video. So freaking helpful. Are you missing the locking pawls?

I have the exact same Volvo penta 270. Took it out today and it worked at begging and now. It won’t raise or lower. Trim just flaps around. Like it’s not connected anymore. Not quite sure how to fix that, but was hoping to see more info about that part of the trim. I’ll keep looking. Cool video though
@baymaxhero41272 жыл бұрын
These do not trim. Only lift for trailering. It sounds like you may have damaged the clutch?

Hi, I saw tilt mechanism on on eBay. You may want to try there. Best of luck!

Hey Man, Did you bypass the tilt limiter/relay switch? My motor works when I power directly, but the black box that limits it is broken, so I want to do the same thing and bypass. Am I seeing right? And does it work like this?
@friendnfamily90534 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes I did bypass the tilt limiter/relay switch. My black box was also broken.
@timothyneedham31744 жыл бұрын
@@friendnfamily9053 Ok, cool. I'm glad you got back to me. I wasn't sure if it the motor would bust something out if the limiter as bypassed, so I haven't hardwired the bypass in yet. Do you operate it like normal without any problems? And lift the motor up or down till it limits out and bogs down on it's own?

@@timothyneedham3174 I was thinking about designing a simple limiter, especially for the retraction step, but didn't have the time to get to it. Without the limiter, I have to know when to stop, e.g. clicking sound when the sterndrive reaches the end of the retraction, otherwise the motor may overheat, or in my case the tilt mechanism can get stuck and not being able to extend again. This is a little less convenience than with the limiter, but it is better than moving the sterndrive up and down by hands. Hope that helps!
@timothyneedham31744 жыл бұрын
@@friendnfamily9053 Awesome, sounds like this will just have to work about the same way as everything else I have. If nothing busted apart for you, that's good enough for me. I appreciate the feedback!

how many horsepower and rpm is your machine.sr

Hi, it has a Volvo 110 hp AQ125A engine. I am not sure about rpm, but found a post online indicating max rpm of 4800 for this particular engine.

@@friendnfamily9053 Hi there, thanks for the video. I have a 2Lt high speed turbo diesel powering my AQ270, it drives my 18 foot fibreglass half cabin hardtop. Running at 18knots it burns 9Lt/h, the engine speed is governed at 3,900 by the 16" prop and at a stand still with the engine torque rockets the boat out of the hole in seconds. It's old school but safe and reliable. A stern drive has better weight disposition with the engine forward of the outlive which improves the ride in choppy water.
