After rewatching my very first and so far only match I can say: Yes, the slow down part is not over-exaggerated. At some points during the match I forced myself to go slower, sell longer or leave my opponent more room to sell despite it feeling terribly long. But watching it now, it was the right choice. I had the entire match plan in my head so of course to me it was obvious what was happening, why it was happening, who was dominating etc. But the audience has to understand this from my opponent's and my selling, so they need time to actually see and then understand it before the next move happens.

@@TilWeMakeIt A couple weeks ago, on my birthday no less, I pinched a cervical nerve. While the pain is annoying, the real killer is the weakness it's caused in my right arm, at least half to even a third of my normal strength depending on the movement. I do have full range of motion, thankfully. I actually just had a consultation and we have a solid strategy to attack the rehab, though! But needless to say, no bumps for a while. But I'm still going to class, even if all I can do is bring a notebook and write up lessons given that way. Right now I'm trying to come up with some milestones for returning to the ring as my strength returns in the gym. Like maybe after a few weeks if gym progress is promising, see if I can at least 70% speed run the ropes, do some up and overs, then see what my next goal should be from there, with the final one probably being bumps causing no issue? If you have advice on these sort of in-ring recovery milestones, I'd love to hear!
@TilWeMakeIt Жыл бұрын
@@JackgarPrime I think you have the exact right strategy for this. Don't skip class! Observe, listen, record your notes. When your doctor or medical team clear you to take baby steps, do light cardio to start, and know the first few days back are going to be rough. But resist the urge to overdo it - that way, you don't set yourself back!
@JackgarPrime Жыл бұрын
@@TilWeMakeIt Absolutely! I'm actually already cleared to do steady state cardio along with my lifting regimen, so while class opening drills are going on, I'm on one of the bikes and pedaling it out. No high intensity interval stuff right now, but we'll be monitoring and seeing how that develops. Definitely nothing with jumping yet, that's for sure. Getting back to ring shape is gonna be an interesting challenge, though. We're already plotting out how to approach it in baby steps once my strength shows signs of recovery. But im feeling very positive about my recovery! Hopefully, by the next time you're up this way, I'll be all healed up and stronger than ever! And until then, I'll be absorbing the mental parts of the game like a sponge.

I remember my first match, It was a 4 man scramble with 2 vets and 2 students. I was mess till about 3 seconds before braking curtain, the music hit and it was just to late to do anything but go out there and do it. It was a very 'f' it and dive in head first moment. I walked out with a big stupid grin, yelled some excited nonsense (that thanks to my thick Sothern accent and working in eastern Canada I'm sure only every other word landed) and people where there for it. It was probably the novelty of it all. I remember after the matching thinking that the 'stage fright' wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it might be and my cardio was nearly good as I thought it might be.

@@TilWeMakeIt Pro-Wrestling Holland Academy. Great people. About 3 hours from where I live with a train. The training plus the traveling back and forth is an entire day on it's own but manageable and worth it long-term, I'd say. Don't know if I'll be able to make training this sunday though. I'm still recovering from a flu I caught some days ago and I don't want to risk infecting other trainees. If it weren't contagious I'd just show up to take notes.

I had my first match during a barrack house show rumble in front of other trainees family members. Another good tip for y’all who are gonna be having your first match is to listen. Nine times out of ten your first match won’t be against another green wrestler, so remember your fundamentals and listen to who’s calling the match. And above all else like the video said, slow down. If you go too fast the fans can’t register what you’re doing. That’s why you’ll see guys get almost no reaction for a fast series of moves, but the fans freak over an old veteran snatching a headlock at the right time.
