But with this one I still think there’s good story lines to do, I’m not saying jump right to kids and a wedding. But I would love to see them deal with Tamara dating a bad boy and how they deal with living together as a family. I knew Chenford had to be a reality from the first episode itself because of their chemistry. I think even the writers saw it but took their time because of course TV can never give you a straight forward romance (even though they dropped hints all along)

I actually like that they waited a few seasons before it became official. In the beginning, there wasn't really all that much potential for a romantic relationship and absolutely no chemistry. Not to mention, Lucy was in a relationship with Nolan - which, seriously? - and Tim was still going after Isabel, not to mention he was still in love with her. In those five years - for us anyway - it allowed the both of them to grow as characters, with Tim's issues and trauma regarding Isabel and his parents, and for Lucy to settle into the aspects of being a cop and then later her distrustful nature of random men. I don't think their relationship would have been the same if they had gotten together in say season three even though the tension had been growing since around the season one finale.

There actually was fantastic chemistry between then and there's a reason why Season 1's finale was written the way it was. That moment with Lucy & Tim across a door but unable to touch each other wouldn't have worked with the other two instructor-boot pairs. And the romance with Nolan was just a placeholder to tide over the initial episodes. But, yes, the long wait proved helpful for development of both the individual characters as well as the couple. And I'm a fan of the Will they, Won't they trope anyway as long as there's a happy resolution
