Funny thing about that Bud ad, it only aired once. Affective advertising only needs to be shown once to work or destroy your brand: see modern bud light

McDonald's is a powerhouse of global cultural influence, as are all of the big corporate brands I don't have to name because we all know them, too. Advertisers know that people are emotional creatures - hit em in the feels and they're way more likely to remember your brand the next time they need said thing. In the wake of that is a generation that's starting to question everything though. We KNOW the tactics now, and therefore see them in play, often rendering them ineffective. I wonder what strategies advertisers will use when the emotional take doesn't work anymore, like an old joke that's been told too many times.

I actually 100% agree with Seinfeld's soulful materialism and I think most normal people do. Just think about how messed up one must be not to appreciate having supercomputer in their pocket that connects to everything, to have nice pair of shoes on, to get into their warm apartment in winter, to have a nice shower, to be able to order a pizza etc. I think its lack of appreciation of things is what's lacking severely in our society today. Why isnt it spiritual to appreciate a well made thing? I think that's true essence of being spiritual. Just to think what went into you being able to listen to this podcast, the type of knowledge and expertise, it should blow your mind. Issue today is cheap poorly made things and just access to too many cheap services. I would ban them because they not only destroy environment by requiring new resources to be remade, not being worth or being able to be repaired but by being so accessible and cheap we do not value them as we would have they been made with utmost of our ability, it robs us of happiness of owning and deserving things. If you had to pay 3-4 times more for everything you own you bet your ass you would appreciate it more, look forward to it more and enjoy it more.
@strayedarticle2838

I read the first few sentences of your comment and immediately thought of how planned obsolescence cheapens the experience of modern conveniences, and then midway you said exactly that. I hope you continue to be vocal about that philosophy. Maybe someday we can break the addiction to cheap throw away items, and have a culture that values craftsmanship over Walmarts BS.
@outlander234

@@strayedarticle2838 "I hope you continue to be vocal about that philosophy." You make it sound like I have a platform to do so haha Yeah I wish I could awaken more people to this reality of our existence. It really ties into everything. Now there is another impending doom of AI which will make even more things like art and programming more accessible in free of hard work sort of way and even more generic. The market would become even more saturated with digital crap than it already is. There is really no benefit to most modern conveniences of the 21st century, most of them just make us live in sped up way that isnt natural to our brain chemistry.

We should appreciate what we have. But until people let go of complexes and accept themselves they wont be happy no matter what. On the other hand, confident people can be happy no matter what. Materialism just elevates our dopamine levels, but its not the primary source.

I don't know if Tim repeating the last two words in the sentence of the person, he's talking to, is some form of prank/troll behavior or if it's a crutch to allow for a few seconds to rapidly continue developing a comedy point but it's become habitual. Example: Joe: "The entire thing will come crashing down." Tim: "Crashing down." Joe: "Alex Jones was way ahead of everyone on that." Tim: "Everyone on that." Just examples but it happens about 60% +/- of the time.

Advertising used to be so good though. Especially Budweiser and bud light. They had great ads. The frogs, the wassup guys, the guys dressing up as women to get into the ladies night at bar so they could get their beer, the cursing in the work place so they could fill the swear jar because when it was full they got to use the money from the swear jar to go buy beer. Plus all the insurance commercials were funny. And I always liked the Clydesdale horse commercials, especially around Christmas and how they did tribute to 9/11, it was very nostalgic and respectful. Now all the commercials are too serious and not funny. Not witty, not unique, just blah. It definitely cannot be described as art anymore.
