@@bernadette607 " He sung with his heart" It is on his grave. Most people sing with their purse as the main back vocalist. Indeed such a waste of true genius by awful drugs. I hardly ever use the word genius.

Androgynous Genius indeed, I agree. I have listened 100s of times and the depth of aching mingled with pure delight that he evokes in me every time never diminishes. Wow! Then I wonder how does it enhance even further, how we embrace these artists we love, when we find others that share our love and enjoyment of them equally.

So glad someone would say that. I was around him a lot, opening for him, hanging out after the gig. I recognized how important he was, His body of work was so small, compared to longer lived artists, but what we got was choice ( to paraphrase Spencer Tracy.) Re Kate Hepburn he said "There isn't much meat on her, but what there is is cherce!"

From Wkipedia: It has been reported that Bob Dylan said Hardin was "the greatest living songwriter" after hearing his first album. In a 1980 interview when asked about the Dylan quote Hardin recalled: "Yeah, I played him part of the album one night and he started flipping out, you know. Man, he got down on his knees in front of me and said: Don't change your singing style and don't bleep 'a' blop..." The entire Wiki entry is enlightening and heartbreaking. Judy Garland on stage felt dangerous-you never knew if she'd transport you into another dimension, or if she'd stumble into incoherence. Sadly, Tim was the same.

Agree completely about 'Bird'. His songwriting skills had pretty much slipped away, but his interpretations of others' songs was on the rise … his take on Georgia On My Mind is just extraordinary. One of a kind, a tragic figure, but this clip shows him on a good night, for sure!

And the ship sets her sail They've lived the tales Carried to the shore Straining at the oars Or staring from the rail And the sea bids farewell She waves in swells And sends them all on their way Time has been her pay And time will have to tell Soon your sailing will be over Come and take your pleasure by the harbor And the anchor hits the sand The hungry hands Have tied her to the port The time it will be short For leisure on the shore And the girls, they scent the air They look so fair With paint on their face Soft is their embrace To lead you up the stairs Oh, soon your sailing will be over Come take the pleasure by the harbor Dark and dim The touch of skin You ask her of her name She answers without shame And not a sense of sin The cigarette of doubt Till candle is blown out The darkness is so kind …is so kind Soon your sailing will be over Come and take your pleasures of the harbor Soon your sailing will be over Come and take your pleasures of the harbor
