It's possibly because the actors, and most of the filmmakers, on Fellow Travelers are actually queer themselves. So much queer content suffers and feels inauthentic because it's people who don't know our experiences playing the roles and writing the parts.

They both needed each other,hawk needed someone who gives hope ,hope that good exists in the world,tim needed hawk to know or experience not everyone is as good as him ,to stay human ,a person with hope and with flaws , but towards the end it feels like tim outgrew hawk , he loved him but didn't need him

The cause he was fighting was more important to him in the end than hawk..I think..cause he lost so much time already so maybe in the end he wanted to do the right thing..also he didn't knew that Lucy left hawk so he might have thought it would be best for hawk to go home😢

He wanted also to make a final mark on the world about AIDS. I think he was sacrificing his love again to send Hawk home to Lucy as he had done many times before. Who knows what would have happened if Hawk told him Lucy was leaving. Hawk also was not yet sure of that until he got home. Hawk would have tried to protect Tim from protesting too strenuously as it could throw him into another seizure. Tim wanted nothing to hold hm back in this last soul fight.

I’m now around to the idea that Tim gave way when he would .. but wouldn’t when he could … e.g. the “Arthur” thing was so flimsy as a writing idea .. the show has so many might-have-beens.
