Had 3 years of lessons as a kid but stopped because he didn't like the discipline. Part of his Advanced diploma in Contemporary Music focuses on advanced instrumental & performance skills on their chosen instrument - in Tim's case....the piano.

FYI, there’s a whole bunch of slang/derogatory terms for redheads in there that most people from US don’t get: Ranga - from Orangutan, a red haired ape most commonly found in Indonesia Fanta Pants - Fanta is a bright orange soft drink, fanta pants because orange p*bes Fringe - better known in the US as Bangs Ginger nuts - ginger flavoured cookies, rock hard so they normally get dunked into tea or coffee to prevent broken teeth, but of course Tim just HAD to make it into a double entendre Bozo - the clown with the red wig Fire Truck - just what it says Carrot-top - ditto Blood nut - nut is head (not sure if that’s common in the US, but just for completeness) Match stick - back in the days before disposable lighters became so cheap, Red Head was a ubiquitous brand of matches in Oz Tampon - I’ll let you work out the origin of that. Not that I ever heard it used that way. And the phrase “If you don’t have a tinge of Ginge in your minge” - minge is a less than polite reference to lady-bits in Oz, UK and NZ.

GAVE gets it, 😅Many of the old British TV comedy shows (Alf garnet / love thy neighbour) etc show racism in flight, the point being it highlighted the ridiculousness of racism, the problem is now people get offended by pointing out the racism, getting upset by the story instead of the reason for the story.

Comedians are important. They can cut through the BS of today's world where nothing else can. There's loads of great Tim Minchin stuff out there. 'Thank you God' and 'Darkside' are epic! As a rule, if comedians aren't joking about you, you're not relevant.

Gabe is right about how Eddie Murphy's stand-up would probably not be allowed these days. That would also go for Richard Pryor, who also produced some of the most successful stand-up shows in history. As people of all races enjoyed these shows, I'm not sure who is supposed to be offended!

SPOILERS - DO NOT READ BEFORE WATCHING VIDEO: A couple of points subtle points (often not picked up) with this presentation... Firstly, they deliberately keep the stage lights at a level to 'hide' the colour of Tim's HAIR... Until he mentions the G word and they then adjust the lighting to EXpose his HAIR colour. He pronounces S W O R D S differently because it has 'WORDS' in the name...
