My grandparents have one of those wooden-ball-pecking-chicken-paddle toys (3:00) in their basement. It actually is painted, with yellow chickens, a red handle, and the paddle is painted green with yellow dots to look like chicken feed. Its positively ancient and I used to love playing with it as a kid, especially as one of the chickens seems to have lost it's head some time ago, and just has a bare stump of a neck!

I had one of those chickens as a kid, i'm sad to report that, well not exactly sad, it was what propelled me to question everything about the world, that the insides are quite interestingly designed. Especially the sound mechanism. A pity kids these days don't experience these kind of things anymore.
