I love whenever Tim talks not just about the toys, but also their history or mechanical principles behind them, it really transforms a simple toy showcase into a slice of history or pop-science in a way that no other channel does.

We used to make our own “water wienies”. We’d go down to the neighborhood drugstore and get 3 feet of amber rubber “surgical” tubing, tie a knot in one end, and put the lower half of a click-top ball point pen barrel into the other, point facing out. That would concentrate the water flow, and it could shoot for a long distance. Just jam the point of the pen barrel into a simple hose nozzle to fill. You could carry the water wienie like a tuba, curving over your back, behind your neck, and the business end aimed from the hip (they got quite long when filled). However, every once in a while, the tube would give out with a bang, and soak the user! If you were shirtless, which was likely for boys in a summer water fight, that could sting a bit too.

I remember having the clown water toy from the 1978 cover as a kid (although I wasn't born until the 80s). The water pressure would build up in the hat and it would go flying off into the air.

I had a Frisbee that lit up if you threw it hard enough. I loved it greatly. My best friend had a "UFO" style one that lit up all around the lip( flashing) and made a strange noise. Those were much too expensive for my family to buy, but it was so cool. I still loved mine greatly.

I was friends with former Wham-O Frisbee champions. Wham-O would send groups of them to tour schools and show off, which helped drive the Frisbee craze. The Simpsons TV show parodied it with it's yoyo episode

I remember that "super elastic bubble plastic" goop so well as a kid in the 70's! Holy cow, but did that stuff have a strong chemical smell! And the fact that you put a dollop on the end of a straw and blew into it means you could just as easily inhale afterwards and get a lung full of whatever made that stuff what it was! Lordy, but that couldn't have been safe!
