So so sad to hear of Tim's passing. He was by far my favorite comedian to listen to on the Bob and Tom Show. He'd play one of his songs and I'd sing right along. Knew every word. My prayers to his wife and kids. A great talent.

Well if Tim were alive today, I would tell him, that the Tennessee accent depends on what end of Tennessee, you're on. I have lived on both sides, so I got this thang all figured out...=D If you are in the East TN area, you have that long, drawn out, sweet as apple pie, southern accent, that just melts the heart...(Both, East TN and South Eastern KY folks, have the same accent.) We do a lot of that, "Well bless your heart." and "nasal talking" over on the east side...LOL! If you are in the Middle TN area, most y'all really don't want to appear to be from the south or at least you try to act and talk like you ain't from the south. Y'all get all proper and such, but that little twang in your voice, gives it away, every time. ;) Now, if you head on over to the West TN area, you have entered into the South again! LOL! The West TN accent just ain't as drawn out and nasal, as the east side, but still just as sweet as apple pie. ;) And that my friends, is the Tennessee Accents! =)
@chrisstricklin29718 жыл бұрын
I was gonna say that same thing.. I live around Jackson and you pretty much hit it on the head. its a shame that he couldn't do the TN one that well
@galeexoden54227 жыл бұрын
Nahhh I strongly disagree. I think you do have the more "standard" southern "sweet-as-pie" accent that you're alluding too, but in middle TN people can have this really aggressive "pushy" accent as I call it, where you try to "PUSH" all your words out, and can come off as pretty aggressive. Maybe that's just a Nashville thing. But I grew up in Nashville around people who speak just like they do in Appalachia. EXTREMELY southern and hillbilly, and it ain't pretty AT ALL. And of course it's like that throughout Eastern TN as well. That might be a class thing- poorer people have that "mountain speak" going on, while I find more well-off people have the more "pretty" and "aristocratic" southern drawl.
@endersstare3287 жыл бұрын
I've learned that sometimes, all over the south, "bless your heart", can be a compliment, or it could translate into: "aww, he is that stupid"

Let me help with Tennessee: Tennessee is three states and that is why we have three stars on our flag and three Supreme Courts (Jackson, Nashville and Knoxville) and three accents. West TN is somewhat like Mississippi but with a flatter accent, like the land. East Tennessee has a sharp southern accent, closer to western North Carolina and Eastern Kentucky. I live in Knoxville (pronounced as "NOxvul" by the locals). Nashville falls somewhere in between. West TN is the land of Elvis and flat land, Middle TN is the land of the Grand Ole' Opry and rolling hills, East Tennessee is the land of the Smoky Mountains and Hee Haw, true Hillbillies. The University of Tennessee is the only University on earth thats fight song includes a verse about moonshine.

Those that live here do and many others considering we share the most visited National Park in the USA with North Carolina. My guess is that you have never seen it. Over 9 million tourists and 11 million non-recreational visitors traveled to the park in 2010, more than twice as many visitors as the Grand Canyon, the second most visited national park.
@DrZilla18 жыл бұрын
Get over yourself, the only states that the country laughs at more than Tennessee are Alabama and Mississippi
@astrofrk8 жыл бұрын
Why, because some Yankee troll wants to put down Tennessee? I LOVE my state, it isn't perfect but I have lived in 7 states throughout the USA and I like East Tennessee the best. I already explained that Tennessee is three states culturally. Knoxville held the 1982 Worlds Fair and few cities of its size can make such a boast. This is also where Peyton Manning played in college but I guess you never heard of him. At any rate, you are wasting my time.

DrZilla1 well we kinda are the birth place of American music from bluegrass, blues, rock, and country. Hell the only thing anyone else came up with is rap and that shit sucks dick. Also no matter if your in the west Tennessee plains, middle Tennessee hills,or the East Tennessee mountains it's one of the most beautiful states I personally have ever seen. So fuck off dude we don't need you.

I realize we do. My argument was to someone who said anywhere north of Lynchburg Virgina is a northern accent. That isn't true. I hear people from Culpeper and Warrenton. They don't sound like Northerners. In fact, you can hear a southern dialect as far north as the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. It becomes seriously diluted once you reach the DC suburbs, however.
@calebpratt191511 жыл бұрын

Wish you would have included Texas in the mix; part of the Confederacy, and the far East of the State, is cotton country, and timber. Lots of sleepy, little towns, and is very much the "Old South." Fort Worth, "Where the West Begins," is a noticeable departure from "The South," though there are traits--as one drives West from Fort Worth, it gets considerably more nasal, flat in accent. East Texas near the Arkansas and Louisiana border is the "Deep South," although in Texas, ,instead of the drawn out, "You All," we just say, "Y'all." We tend to shorten the expressions....and one noticeable item is that Texas was it's own Republic, when we joined the Union, and had a different breed of cat in Texas--people wanting the "wide-open spaces," Cowboys, gun-toting folks who were far from the Sheriff in the country, so very independent of a Central Govt, and "the law," so we were wide open, free, and such, and it's uncanny really, that about Fort Worth, the "South" is ending, and the Western influence is merged with it, to form what people recognize as "Texan." (With so many people from the North coming to Texas for low taxes, And no State income taxes, less regulation--it's changing the accent, dialect, and UNFORTUNATELY along with Illegal aliens streaming across, changing the culture and turning less and less into a purple state. Oh well........the language is still very much visible, especially in Eastern part of Texas--"The Old South."
