Hey Tim! Love all your shows you have made. I think it’s awesome you have a car in most of your shows or movies. You have some real jems in that garage, I’d love to see your own car collection, I can only imagine. Take care and keep on producing the great shows. And take care of those rides!!!

Tim isn't quite getting electric. Not stepping on the accelerator pedal IS neutral. The car doesn't want to go anywhere. He's viewing it as though it's an automatic.

I agree, there should be a "disconnect" for when it's "parked" that turns off the motor and applies the parking brake
@jtw20555 ай бұрын
Definitely needs " park " to lock the transmission to where if the gas pedal is accidentally stepped on it won't move and an interlock that cuts power to the motor until the key is on and the shifter is in drive or reverse .
@1991pony5 ай бұрын
OK, here's what you do. Get a button that's marked "P/N" ( park/neutral). Tim pulls into his parking spot, hits the p/n button which also sets the electronic parking brake. It's an electric motor, it isn't sitting there idling at 700 rpm. If the car is stopped, the motor isn't running.
@Buckwired5 ай бұрын
Oh my gosh 🤦🏻♂️. If you want a "Park" gear, get the TorqueTrends 2:1 reduction,(which is already on the revolt motor) but exchange for the one they with a park pin controls by a solenoid. When you select park, it drops the pin in place and keeps the gear reducer from rotating, and back that up with the electric parking brake Bodie is talking about. THATS basically how your automatic transmission "park" gear works in your beloved ICE cars.

didn't the early GM Corvair's have a vertical trans shift lever on the dash near to steering wheel? simple with the two speed powerglide, just saying!

I am shocked nobody said the word "pawl" as in parking pawl, once! If the differential doesn't support it, fine. Would be nice to have 2 ebrakes then, for both axles and neutral tells inverters to not allow any power to motor. Or could reach down underneath the rear and pull the emergency stop hah. Video was great I KNEW Park was going to come up then it became hilarious

@butchp13845 ай бұрын
If you put it into Neutral, and the E-brake automatically engages, like Brody said, that is the same as Park. Not understanding what Tim isn't comprehending on that? The E-brake would obviously disengage when you put the vehicle back into Drive or Reverse.

Okay, I am not hating Bodie. Not a big fan, but warming up. Have the Park engaging the electric brake. Or Tim you carry a parking chock and throw it down every time you stop and get out.
@joshrepik5 ай бұрын
Tim - automatic semis don’t have park. You put it in neutral, set the brakes, and you’re good. You start it in neutral and then go to drive or reverse. It’s pretty common these days
@jamesford29425 ай бұрын
What it needs is a park sprag like an automatic transmission has that when engaged also cuts power to the motor so no chance of accidental motor engagement. You need a neutral position so the car can be moved when it breaks.
@bobbyp97865 ай бұрын
You are right Tim. When placed in neutral, then hi power contactor should drop out and allow the wheels to freewheel. Only if the e- brake is engaged (park) should it lock the vehicle in place. It should also have an emergency brake hydraulic or cable type as a 2nd safety.

Hook up a ebooster from bosch. Cheap from ebay etc. It's a electric power brake booster. With "handbrake" / park built inn. Works perfect for this. (And use the electric handbrake when you leave the car. Just like tesla etc.
@edbrown20615 ай бұрын
Nope! While Teslas may have a “park” button on the touch screen, it does the same thing as an electronic parking brake. While I get Tim’s concern about it rolling while unattended, the E-Brake will do the same thing. Put the switch to neutral which Bodie already said was going to be -drive/neutral/reverse, and then put in the E-Brake and it’s the same thing as a park button. Unless there is some mechanical linkage or electronic solenoid in the transmission, you can’t have a “park”. Again, designing something like this on a computer before hand would have saved time and money on this build but I don’t think this type of original build has been done before. Every other build I’ve seen is someone taking the guts of a Tesla and mashing them into another vehicle. This is pretty much an original EV system being built to fit a street rod. It’s double the work.

Given they will need a column drop, why not make the drop into an A/C outlet between the column and dash in an oval form? [The A/C then blows up through the steering wheel into Tim's face.] Then integrate switches on each side of it in a 1934 design style. That way the notch in the dash looks like it is a feature instead of something "not fixed" when the column is dropped. I'd just cnc the part out of aluminum and chrome it. But it could be welded together from steel and painted.

Wrong car choice for this, sorry just the truth, putting ten pounds of extriment in a one pound bag , and Brodie is not having any satisfaction trying to finish a mistake. Don't mean to be critical but just too many small spaces, won't be fun to drive. I think a 50s truck or car would have been a smarter choice with Tims decerning ergonomics n handling n ride needs met. But easy to be critical after the fact. Both men very successful n acoplished in their fields. Best of luck , stay friends. We all learn from mistakes.
