Well done on the tunnel! Very strong the gothic shape. I built one last year out of douglas fir from a local mill also, all out of 4x1 rough sawn. Clamps clamps and more clamps, can never have enough! Hopefully building a wider one to cover four beds in the coming months, might even do a few videos. Great work! Cheers Mike (NZ)

Great! Yeah buying enough clamps at the start was key to actually making it work. Worth it though. A wider one would be good, I'm contemplating a workshop...

@@thewildcroft yes a workshop is on my list too. After building my greenhouse gothic and standing inside it spoke of workshop and my wife quickly reminded me that this one's for the plant babies!

Al - I was super impressed when you showed me pictures of this a couple of weeks. Seeing the video...I just have one word...WOW!! Puts my wee peerie poly to shame. The gothic arch shape is a winner all day long.

Fantastic. Wanted to make my own ploytunnel but out of wood and found this video. Just perfect. What thickness poly did you use? Would you mind sending a link to what you used? I use alot of Birch plywood so thinking of utilising the offcuts and laminating to a similar shape. Iroko for the external items, capping etc.
@thewildcroft Жыл бұрын
I use 2 strips of 15mm Douglas fir with a 50mm block then another 2 strips. I’m not sure plywood would stand up to the humidity. I’ll be doing plans later in the year. Our new website for selling them is timbertunnel.co.uk

Lovely design Al, I'm currently making something similar but using 63mm MDPE pipe to form the dome. I like your solution to joining the glazing, those H sections are a rip off. I can't currently decide on 6mm or 10mm twinwall. I live i Nottinghamshire so we don't get quite the same extremes in weather as you. I'm not sure I can justify the extra expense of 10mm. I've also used lift off hinges for my stable door top section, i expect it can just get stowed in the summer. The door frame is on 1050mm centres to align to the twinwall widths so propped open they'd be a bit of an obstacle. I'm also considering using the top joint as a ridge vent where the glazing would otherwise butt up. What are your thoughts matey? Cheers, Baz
@thewildcroft Жыл бұрын
6mm would be fine I’m sure. You could bring the centres in or add more central fixings to stiffen it. I wondered about ridge venting too but opted not to in the end, but it could definitely work. I think you’d want to close them off in winter though. Good idea for the lift off hinges, my door is the same size and it’s a bit of a whopper

What glue did you use the laminate the arches? I live in New York State.
@thewildcroft2 жыл бұрын
I used polyurethane as it dries quick and expands to fill in any gaps. Worked well.

It's a beautiful work of art. I cant help thinking it would be more practical to build with flat sides and single slanted roof.

@@guineapigfarmer6064 it would yes but that wouldn't be strong enough in the Highlands.
