Finally some messenger bag reviews from someone with a proper grasp on the English language (and knows how to use a camera properly). Good review.

Thank you for the first good review I've been able to find for this bag. Helped make up my mind.

I just got this bag. Same exact one. And I'm able to fit a 15in MBP 2008 in without much of a problem. It sticks out about 2in from the top of the sleeve, but the flap comes down normally and everything fits rather nicely. So if you travel light, but a 15incher then this bag should still be pretty good for you.

Thanks for the review mate, very informative and helpful. Any chance you could do a quick description of the internal modular organization system, hard to see into it during the review...

@bikerboy909 Sorry I accidentally deleted your other question about whether there was a zippered pocket in the main compartment that ran the full length of the bag. To answer you, though, are you referring to the modular pockets I referenced? There is no pocket in the main compartment that runs the entire length of the bag. The largest modular pocket is just over half the width of the bag and is fairly flat and thin (again, wouldn't want to put your glasses in there, for example).

Agree with capaxdolionutube that this is one of the better if not best Timbuk2 reviews. Thanks!

@fullfatmayo Yes you can, but not with the D-Lux bag; only with the Laptop Messenger which is the 3-color version. Also, the D-Lux was released before the Laptop Messenger was upgraded with the newer features, which is why I chose it. The Laptop Messenger appears to be "build your own only" on the site, which means you will pay $140+, whereas I got a deal on this bag for around $75.

@Anzmadhatter Yeah it would work fine. The small size won't carry a whole lot in the way of books. Maybe 2 standard size hardback textbooks. Also, There won't be a lot of usable space left over for more fragile items such as glasses or a portable game system or similar, as I mention in the video.

@willmtsai Ok, just cleared my bag out and tried again. Turns out there was some crap at the bottom of my bag and now the binder fits just fine with a textbook, almost exactly even with the top of the pocket. Keep in mind that the more you load it, the bigger gap there will be on the edges of the flap to possibly let rain in. If you're biking it's something to keep in mind...

@bikerboy909 Ahhhh!!! I have the video recorded, I just need to get it edited and uploaded. I will try to do it this week. Hopefully it will still be useful -- it might already be too late...

I see. Only reason I'm hesitant is because I'm using it for school and the occasional bike ride. I usually carry a 12.5 inch Lenovo X220 (kinda like yours haha), a standard 1 inch binder, and maybe an textbook. The medium dimensions seem a little large, but the small seem too small. Do you have any recommendations (maybe for other bags)?
@ultraconsumer13 жыл бұрын
@willmtsai Just tried it with a standard 1" plastic binder. It does stick out of the pocket by approximately 1", but could be covered by the flap still. I wouldn't recommend more than a couple of these at a time, otherwise it won't be able to close at all.

@boomerjr22 It really depends on the thickness of the binder and shoes. If they're flip flops or like floppy converse, probably.

works beautifully

Just curious, from the dimensions from timbuk2 website, the height of the bag seems a little short compared to other brand messengers. Would this be able to carry a binder for school? A binder is around 10 inches high.

Glad it helped! Although I like the way this bag looks a lot, I wouldn't recommend it for practical reasons...

@redleader55yt I agree with everything you said except for a key point: aesthetics. Backpacks are not as good for a professional work environment where briefcases/messengers give off a somewhat more professional image and look a bit better with dress clothes (imo). The same is true for a bag with more utility than this bag: there are a lot of them out there, but most of them are FAR less aesthetically pleasing (again, imo) than the timbuk2.

i just ordered mine and im afraid that the medium classic messenger bag is going to be to big...your small one looks more convenient, unfortunately, its to small for my 13in macbook pro
@ultraconsumer14 жыл бұрын
@fullfatmayo Yup. Just no built in laptop sleeve.

You say timbuk2 bags have pockets that aren't good for 3d objects, but have you tried other bags that are? specific brands or models? Thanks!
@ultraconsumer11 жыл бұрын
It's been a long time since I went bag shopping (3-4 years), but my previous bag by Ogio was MUCH better in terms of pockets and cheaper to boot. It was also bigger and less attractive than the Timbuk2.

Depending upon the situation, I use either my Dunhill London Triple Document Satchel ($1,470), or a couple of plastic Kroger's grocery bags (free).

Not to rain on your incredibly annoying/offensive post, but I believe they are made in Vietnam. While the custom bags are still made in California

@redleader55yt what would you recommend in terms of other bags?

Lol, I want to support US jobs as much as the next guy, but you have to realize that in this globalized world of outsourcing you are being incredibly hypocritical of singling out TB2 for this practice. Look around your house... more than 90% of everything YOU'VE purchased in the last decade is probably made in China/Low wage Asia. We need new governmental policies that reward quality over quantity... our stuff is just getting too crappy and cheap
