Probably. Some speculation also is that he did not want the position based on their conversations. He is a governor in charge of a large swing state. If she wins, an independence vote here in Texas will become a certainty. Holding such a referendum is already a plank on the Texas Republican party platform (added with approval from 90+% of the delegates). In 2022, a SurveyUSA poll showed 66% support for holding such a referendum. If anything, support has vastly grown for it since then. Even if Trump wins, if Congress blocks Trump's reforms (or they don't go far enough) I'd still vote for independence.
