We first saw Michael Garland’s Subaru Impreza around 18 months ago where the car was initially setup in naturally aspirated form. Since then an ever dependable JDM Subaru EJ207 2L has been fitted with the only internal change being a set of head studs. Externally a Blouch turbocharger helps make 375hp to the wheels.
Michael was competing in the annual SubiNats event at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit and came home in first position in the GotItRex sponsored Super Sprint class.

Great video, subject, narration, direction/editing and driving. These videos are severely under-liked. +1 from me. Time attack is growing and very interesting. I love drag too and hope to see more time attack videos in future. Good work lads.

I built a semi competitive GD WRX for time attack back in the very early days of the program but I couldn't think about the cost to build that level of car now even then it was around the 70k mark for my shop to build the car with myself doing most of everything after hours spending as little as possible but the level of vehicle I see now is both inspiring and shocking knowing what it takes to reach that level.... I darn sure miss those days though!!!!

He whipped a 1:41... with some decent traffic blocking the fast lines. There is a lot more potential in there. Amazing stuff.

A lot of these times also come down to the driver skill not just the car.

That 1:43 i was referring back too the car was driven by warren luff. So yes you are right haha, driver skill plays a big part

@@i_am_tinny_man_2267 i dont say BOV will destroy turbo, boosting +overboost and antilag WILL kill ur turbo..... running BOV or not(fluter) wont affect the turbo life, even if it does,its not that much...less than 5% i suppose

Nice work. I think Australian superbike run about 31.5 or 32, but I could be wrong, and I can very clearly remember Rossi getting penalised 10 seconds, so he dug deep and tied together a string about 12 consecutive 29.4s or so, on an NSR500 2smoke... ... and I think a V8 supercar does it in around 28 dead, but they've got heaps of aerodynamic down-force... I know Qld Raceway but I only know PI by reputation. If you can get under 1:50 at a track day, then you shouldn't be in the slow group. If you can get a (fairly) standard road bike, (10R, Gixxer thou or something) on legal street tyres around there in less than 1:40, then you should get a competition license and start adding a bit of race glass... A stock 1000 street bike, on good soft road tyres, with a good A grade rider on, would be able to do about 1:36 or 7... and most of that's not engine, that's tyres, and a bit less weight.

fast is fast..but with the amount a ground clearance there, I reckon you can still do a decent rally attack with that setup lol.

McPherson suspension is only efficient as a relatively high ride height. You need serious geometry correction to have the suspension work and have a low ride height. Not ideal design. This is why Hondas do so well in Clubsprint and Open class of WTAC. Double wishbone, light weight and good engines.

Is that not the blow off valve we are hearing so much ? Wouldn't a taller gear keep the engine in its usable power band longer ?

Or is it more that there is so much boost being produced and used up to that point that it must instantly be vented when the driver lifts off of the accelerator ?

I don't believe there is a BOV fitted to this engine, the noise is 'flutter' on throttle lift.

I see, would have thought that for any noise like that to come from the car that it would have to come out the exhaust or be released via a blow-off valve or wastegate. And that otherwise, it would impede operation or take too long to restore a proper manifold pressure to be a competitive setup. I must be mistaken. Thanks for word
