My conception of the story. Steven made a box that told his future, and when he was about to dispose of it another Steven came out, and told him the box was his future and when he leaves he ceases to exist in a moment in time and rather becomes the thousands of bodies spread throughout time, and space. Dying in the fact that you are no longer your past self. Putting you back in the box was a meaning of nostalgia. Wanting time to go back Ed made this metaphorical box to show that your life revolves around you, and in one of the whispers during the music say, "The problem is because you keep playing with it." There would be no puzzle in this puzzle game if you never played it. "Give up" is the message during the game because it would rather be remembered as too hard then not remembered at all! You are the key to Ed's success, yet yours too.

*tldr from what I can tell:* *good ending:* the box is the world of a child, the darkness is ignorance. the marker is your actions, and the drawing is you. As you grow up in ignorance, your actions determine your fate. Only in adulthood can you understand what your actions determined. You hate what you've seen, and want change that cannot happen. You will live life unhappy, wishing for the power to create a world you're happy with. _(unachievable purpose dillema)_ *bad ending:* you search for meaning and instruction. You do what you're told and what you've come to expect. You expect meaning to present itself. You search for meaning rather than assigning it, in a search that will end in death. _(unattainable purpose dillema)_

it seams the only difference between the good and bad endings is that the bad ending ends with a passage saying you took the easy way out and followed the rules set forth by society and therefore you did-not learn from the experience i may be reading too much into this but that's just what it seams like and also the game was fairly creepy and left me saying wtf

I'll just say that edmund has expressed the inspiration for this game to be encountering old acquaintances at a school reunion. I don't think you're so far off.

the wall of text at the end describes Isaac's story really well, at first he has his "box", his imaginary world where he can live his best life however he wants. Then, he can't see well, and after his mum tells him to "turn on the light" he realises his world is ruined, full of bodies of himself. This is really similar to Tboi, where every enemy is confirmed to be a twisted version of Isaac. Not only that, in The Legend of Bum-bo, there's a cutscene where we see that Isaac's mum actively tried to interfere with his imaginary world because it was something he and his father made together, who left them both. Isaac "cannot see well" in his imaginary world, he starts to feel the weight of his dark hone life and asks his mum for help, who only makes it worse for him. After this, he asks for a different box with a different marker, which I think has a lot of similarities to Repentance's beast ending, where Isaac and his (fake?) father start over with a new, happier story.

It was actually confirmed by Ed himself at some point that Isaac and Steven are the same in both a literal and figural sense, which raises more questions than answers to be honest. My theory is Steven is what Isaac becomes after death, unable to let go of his imaginary world, it being the only thing he's ever known at this point, instead of being able to rest, to let go and move on, he is forever stuck in a loop of his own doing, he has always been cursed to be his own personal hell since childhood.

Im bored so I came up with meaning. Its not wrong because it is an opinion, which is stupid. So like, Steven (you) is you that lives in imagination, and you (Steven) are you. Steven wants you to live in your made up world so you can be happy, but this will end in death (It does in both endings) the child lived in a 'box' of their own imagination, and only peeked into the world to eat and stuff. That world was perfect in every way, but when graduated to a larger box (I feel this was literally the child moving into a room, not simply a box. Cause things can have a literal meaning and a poetic stupid meaning) he saw that his world was killing him, severing him from the real world and he wanted a new box and marker, so like he could start over. Its like when as a kid you realize you cant spend all your time thinking about the adventures you would have if you lived in the starwars universe or whatever, and that you will eventually need to do taxes. The kid still fails this, depending on how you want to look at him wanting a new box/room/whatever. Steven (you) and you (Steven) are the same characters. You want to stay in the imagination world, while you want to also not and actually do something with your miserable life. The second ending is kinda just like "Oh come on you got this far and you give up? You don't get the real ending, you don't get to have another sleepless night/ hour long shower thought session." Rereading this I feel like I just summarized the first ending, but I spent like... 5 minutes writing this so its getting posted. Oh wait, youtube says this is tboi. Guess ill have to scrap this and write an Isaac theory. Cause, you know, Edmond has only ever made Isaac.

Something I’d like to call attention to is the legend of bumbo, another of ed’s games. In it Isaac (Steven) plays in a cardboard box, living in a world he thinks is better than his own. Nice touch Ed!

Neither. There is a Chpt. 2 to the game as well. Tells you that once the message in the game is over the game is... over. Steven once leaves the box finds a note telling himself to never stop writing. Time goes on, and of course he stop writing.

@user-uq4xj7uy2y3 жыл бұрын
That's Ash.
@fauxpolecat34562 жыл бұрын
They’re all Isaac. Think of it like this: Isaac is the past, Steven is the present, and ash is the future. Isaac has lived in his box for a while, scared of his mom and while harbouring a lot of self hate (probably also brought on by his mother). Steven, being older, is now processing his past, realising how he spent his life up until now, but still being trapped in a metaphorical box of meaningless experience. But because he sees his past, he is now beginning to realise his future. Ash is his future. Ash is the oldest (judging of voice) and he’s living through what I’m interpreting as the end of his life. He tries one last time to find meaning, to make a friend. But it doesn’t work. His world (metaphorically) crumbles away, until he finally confronts his death. And he accepts it, realising he’d rather die at peace with himself than struggle to escape what he can’t. It doesn’t matter where he dies. In the chest (past), in the box (present), at his (future) home, he dies accepting his life for what it was. And Steven hasn’t accepted his life yet, hasn’t accepted his abusive past or his foreseen death. He’s still living in his box. Well that’s my interpretation, anyway.

Can anyone explain the ending?
@MechWarrior89410 жыл бұрын
If you ended up listening to the voice and killed yourself, it kind of says that you only listen to what you're told and don't think outside the box, forever restrained by the rules and choosing never to look outside them. The level before the voice said the next level is the level you die, and you essentially made it a self-fulfilling prophecy. However, if you choose to find a solution on how to meet the future Steven, it shows you are willing to get outside the box and explore other possibilities that are not constrained by what others tell you. Like Edmund said, his mother made him live in a cardboard box when he was four and gave him a new box when he was ten. He started drawing his future when he was ten and when he finally looked at the future, all he saw was his future selves dying. He rejected that 'future' and asked for another box and a different marker so he can hopefully create a much better future for himself.
