Spent hours watching videos for inspiration on my pond build and yours is up there with the best. Great fish and I love it with the plants and natural look. Looking forward to some videos on your new build. How big are you planning to go?

As big as the misses let's me 🤣 . 1400 gallons maybe. It depends how much I wanna dig down really to add volume. Have you started your build yet? What size you going for.

@ haha the boss always has the final say! ... Not started yet, just finishing off a path and patio in the garden which had a lot of manual digging so i may need to rest my back for a few days before starting the pond 😂 .. Im thinking slightly smaller than yours. 2.4mx1.8x1.2m. ≈5000litres. But I only want 2 sleepers above ground like yours, I don’t like the massive above ground look. I’m also unsure of my filter system. I want to do it diy but not sure if my idea would be good enough as it’s my first one. My current plan is to use 3 of the massive 500litre whiskey barrels. Pump from the pond going to the first one full of filter brushes, feeding the next with 200l of k1 media with an air pump feeding into it to make it a moving bed, which goes to the last one which would basically be a larger version of your bog filter. Not sure if I will need a pump to return back to the pond with that amount of water. Also undecided on if I need a uv somewhere in there. I want to avoid a bottom drain if possible but need to find a pump that would be suitable for moving that amount of water with numerous koi as they grow. 1500litres of filter space seems overkill but it would save me having to redo it as the koi grow in a few years

Yes I have sern people do these sort of systems. Don't they stagger the height of each filter so they naturally feed I to each other. I think it would depend on how much water you want to move an hour and the size of outflow. Does sound like a lot of filtration for size of pond. Maybe 200 litre barrels for filter brushes and k1 media and larger for final bog filter. Make bog filter a feature that looks nice and try and hide other 2 barrels in fake ivy or something. But you know what they say. You can never have enough filtration.

@PeterWilhelm also I find if you have plants you don't really need a uv light. I keep both mine turned off.

@@alexisthisreal5488 yeah that sounds more sensible doing 2 smaller ones. Then if I did need to size up in the future it wouldn’t be too much hassle. Are you going for a bottom drain or just using a pump with your new one? I just don’t like the idea of more digging and having to concrete it in and cutting the liner 😂
