I just picked up a 8” American joiner from a local school that’s in the process of getting torn down. 1916 vintage. No wear on the table. The original scrapping looks like it came from the factory. Babbitt barring are perfect . Westinghouse 2 hp 3 phase motor 4 “ flat belt. What a beast

What was scraped? The table and fence? It's a woodworking tool. You could use an angle grinder and get that table flat enough for woodworking.

I meant scraping , it is used for flattening the bed back in the day Now it’s surface grinding. Scraping is still used in flattening the ways of machine tools. Check out Keith Ruckers at vintage machinery. He had a big scraping job on a horizontal boring mill about six months back. The only thing missing is the brass information plates. But I know who has them. And I’m getting them back. Dam collector’s .

Why would you not use an actual engineering square to set the fence. A speed square is useless, thats for framing.
