Yes, Ruby was blonde. Katie Cassidy was the actress, and she had other things to move on to, so they recast the character. Demons "wear a meatsuit" - a human vessel - so they just picked another actress. The actress they picked is Genevieve Cortese; she and Jared met filming this episode, and over the course of this season, they fell in love and got married. They now have 3 kids together.

Re: Ruby - remember that in the Supernatural universe, demons just wear/possess human bodies. Presumably the body she was in before was destroyed in the season three finale encounter with Lilith. It's still Ruby, just in a different body now. Like, remember how Meg possessed Sam a couple seasons back, but it was still Meg inside Sam's body? Similar here. ;) Castiel's entrance is epic for me, probably my number one favorite character entrance on this show or any other

The actress playing Ruby's is Genevieve Jared/Sam's wife IRL. Their story is very cute. Jared used to sit on the floor staring up at her while she read. Jensen teases him about it at comicon recordings. I love this episode.

Angels are real!, that line always hits hard.. "What's the matter Dean, you don't feel like you deserved to be saved?" . Remember that quote it's pretty important. If you’re a marvel fan then seasons 4 and 5 are like infinity war and end game. If you stop after 5 technically you have a complete story, Kripke wrote the story to complete at 5s finale. I’m not at all saying the rest of the seasons aren’t worth watching but just that these two are like perfect and even a perfect sort of end despite it not being the end

In case you haven’t heard, the new actress that played Ruby in this is now Jared’s (Sam) real life wife. Being pulled from hell also explains the handprint on Dean’s shoulder. And in case you haven’t realized it, Dean telling Sam he has no memory of Hell was a total lie.
