Hard to believe, but until the Mass Pike opened in 1954 (?), rte 9 was the fastest way to western Mass and NYC.

👍 I think the same when I'm driving route 53 or 3A - wow, this is how they used to drive to the Cape before route 3 was built.

@@bostonwalkdrive7763 One of my favorite drives has always been 6A from the canal down to P'Town. A small, fragmentary snap-shot of "the way things were." If you can edit out the MacDonald's. lol
