He thought Jesse was still alive and cooking, because he was the only one who knew the way to do it, and when he saw what they did to him he saved him even asking him to kill him. Walter used Jesse as he wanted most of the time, but it's clear he feels bad for all the things he went thru.

I don't get people who say Walter always was evil to Jessie, on purpose. He clearly loved Jessie like a son, and the things he did to him like poisoning brock from his perspective he was helping Jessie, even if that wasn't the case. He only truly hated Jessie when he blamed him for Hank's death. Like people have said that all these scenes here where Walter comforts Jessie is just him manipulating him and getting Jessie to be on his side, when its clearly not.
