Life can be overwhelming, when there is no plan. It messes w/ ur mental stability, & it's always hard 2 pull things 2gether, when it's all so scattered n ur head. I don't usually comment, either, but hearing u n the video was different. If u haven't done this already, sit down w/ ur wife & go over everything that needs 2 be done, from he less costly 2 the most. Price ur material, then save 4 it. Sarah, u r so loving & patient, & that's what ur hubby needs, as u already know. I luv watching yall explore different avenues of carpentry, 2 complete ur house. I'll wait 4 the next video, whenever it comes. 🙏🏿💜🙏🏿💜🙏🏿💜🙏🏿💜🙏🏿💜🙏🏿💜🙏🏿

We have those crystal type door knobs all over our house. They are lovely. All except our master bedroom. We do have the doorknob for it but after over 33 years the master of the house hasn’t installed it. Note to self, see if you can find a KZbin video and just do it yourself.

331 videos. I made it here finally. Things I enjoyed. Chain Saw to dirt lol, participation with kids there, your integrity for what you all do, when you all moved in it was exciting to see happen, the bathrooms are fantastic, outside clean up and fix up- beautiful garden and grounds, the outhouse idea with storm windows!, the railing work wow!, the barn renovation and that it is full of surprise things to add to the house - the catwalk looked expert, the Amish windows were gorgeous, the demolition was intense and you and Sarah conquered it well though it was exhausting and daunting im sure!, the ceilings - I'm so glad you took the time - they were fantastic when finished, the porch is great - wow the porch skirt!!, "love" in the closet, the doors!!, the flooring with the HS bench wood floors!, keeping the old windows, and I loved the window seats so much-so unique and special, what a great achievement!! Rest, take a break, and we enjoy each video no matter when it comes. It's been fun to see it all. I have no complaints, just awe at all you guys learned and did. I'm glad I get to comment now that I'm caught up. :) Thanks for all the time you put into this channel it's great!!! I've learned a lot. Your family is wonderful and it's great all are involved. The history for the house was good to see. Granite work - the materials you had forever - was very cool. Too late.. but I'm sorry about your grandpa and Sarah's brother... Too long-winded, but I've been waiting to speak for months, haha. :)

Gosh, I understand completely. I bought this house because I could afford it. It was reasonable because it was being renovated (at the deconstruction stage) when the couple divorced. I’m almost 80, a widow on SS. I’m SLOWLY putting it back together. Seems the smallest things add up quickly, and then long wait for the next check. It is frustrating for sure, but I love your house and everything you’ve done to it. And it is so satisfying watching you two work together..you and the kids. You’re young, enjoy the downtime while waiting for a bit more money (materials). 🥰

I admire you for not going into debt. Once there it is so hard to get out. I enjoy your videos but will wait for them. I know what you mean about the cost of things. My roof is going and at 71 years old I can’t work. So I am living with lots of plastic on the ceilings until I can find a grant. With only $930 a month I can’t afford to fix it. However, I feel blessed as I am sure you do with your wonder family.

I understand the feeling of being overwhelmed and unable to proceed. I’m glad you were able to find something less daunting to tackle and complete. Often, that will help dispel some if not all of the gloomies. Getting the area of heat loss closed up and the door installed were important things on the list and didn’t cost any extra money…win-win! Everything about the door is beautiful even the small imperfections, shows some of its history and story! 💕👌👍👏😊💕

Amazing what cleaning an old door will do for it! The thing with having to clean up all the old wood is that it's hard to decide what to do until you know what you have to work with, but it's also hard to do a lot of work that may not have any kind of immediate payoffs. I'm sure you'll get to it eventually, though. And rainbow floors of mixed woods are kinda nifty looking, so you could always do one of those if you don't have enough of stuff to do a full, planned design with what you've got.

Thanks for your video :-) You have had many "low energy/motivation" moments over the years...i think this winter has been a real drain for a lot of us. you did freak out...hahaha. and that's OK. I think it's normal for a lot of people to feel overwhelmed when taking on a new project, then the brain settles in on solving the issue, then comes the action. you've done it several times and always succeed in the most motivating way for me . just focus on the "task at hand" and don't look uphill too often once the plan is developed. and the door is gorgeous!! and ooooh soooo heavy. all of mine are that way and i need to take them to my basement and back up to work on them...a major feat for this old gal. i did one and i'm dreading the others. but i'll wait till February or the early signs of spring . cheers

I guess what you are dealing with is what is sometimes called snagging, when all the left over jobs get sorted out. The difference is that this time, you are not waiting for the finish, but doing on the job snagging as you work towards completion. Ventilation is great, when it is kept in its place and does what it must. The 'new door' looks great, but you sounded tired. January is that time of the year when everything gets on top of people in the northern hemisphere. I am writing this on the first day of February and hoping for great things.

Lucas, high five everything that you accomplish. It is wonderful your wife wants to share the joy of your successes by giving you a high five. I know I am amazed at what you two have done with your stone house. Lucas and Sara, I am high fiving the screen for the beautiful job you did on the door and the team work pulling the electrical cord. With the floor, it is a huge undertaking and when ever you start a new job it seems overwhelming but you will get it done in its own time.

If what youve prepared is not enough for your planned use, youve just prepared it for another use😉 no harm done. So then you either get more wood to prepare for that same job or you buy enough of a different wood and use the first wood you prepared on a future project. Dont get caught up in the little details. Your home is gorgeous and youre almost done❤❤

My first thought was how tricky it would have been to get the jointer upstairs! I’ve watched you for a long time- maybe since you were working on the basement? As someone who is 3/4 of the way through a home renovation, my advice (though I’m sure you know this too) is just do a bit at a time. When you have energy and funds you can do a big push and get things done. It can feel a little sad to walk past uncompleted projects

Missed you guys - you are truly my Favorite channel! I think it's hard to be motivated when it's super cold out. I don't function well in the cold and just want to hunker down and hibernate. Yes, the cost of materials is outrageous. My personal opinion, they went up with Covid, many supplier's used that as an excuse and have yet to lower them back down and unfortunately probably won't. I see the insulation is pretty much done, that's a huge one off the list and has to feel so much better. It looks like there's a couple feet of space that won't be utilized by the door. The space you fixed the draft in, at 1st I thought it might be a closet, but not sure. The door is pretty cool, doesn't need to catch exactly, keeps the house unique. See you next time. .
