Well, Alex has to be one of the most inspiring British figures in France. It came to a point where even though I’m French I would love to see him win this edition. He deserves it so much !

Absolutely fascinating! I could have listened to this for hours. I absolutely don’t get how this race doesn’t attract even more global audience. I’m definitely rooting for you Alex Thomson, even though I’m French. You most definitely deserve the victory this time! 💪⚫️🌊 GO GO HUGO BOSS!!! 🇬🇧🇫🇷 On a side note, I have close to zero experience in sailing, but I tell you this : the footage from 4 years ago, captured by the Marine Nationale helicopter (French Navy), near the Kerguelen Islands, during ACTUAL Southern Oceans racing, with your missing foil, as well as you’freaking legend waiving the 🇬🇧 flag on deck, is among the most universally fascinating videos I’ve ever watched. It should have 100M views 🙌

What an amazing jump into the mindset of a offshore sailing athlete. I love Alex's positive, practical mentality. We can all take something from this. What a legend. #no1vendee.

The discussion centered around the mental aspects and the endurance required for a race like this is important to so many other pursuits.

jjust a pedantic correction: Yves Parlier (and nobody would argue that he is a legend whose memory should never be allowed to fade) did not sail to an uninhabited island, but he did pick an inlet on NZ's Stewart Island where it would be unlikely that anyone else would turn up to offer the one thing he was not permitted to avail. (Outside help). So he effectively turned it into an uninhabited location for his purposes. And proceeded to repair and re-erect a towering mast, a feat which (on paper) it is absolutely not possible for a man alone without recourse to a workshop plus a crane of some description to manage.

I must say, I was not a AT fan bacause of some cocky comments he made about Mike Golding, and then Mike rescues him in the southern Ocean. but Alex have been winning me overland I am a supporter now - I am however beating him on Virtual Regatta so there LOL

in response to the comment of getting folk outside sport into it....hells yeah. i like my sport in adult size. im from canada and the national sport is hockey. i played that when i was a child and all i know bring a halfwit child to hockey. (nice, sport. does it come in adult? no its a kids game). i shoot fight hunt and run because i would be too afraid to run imoca class races. i ended up here because of the mastwalk stunt.second vendee. skoden alex

Great guy who would ndeed have won last edition without the foil damage. And a sailor who's pro enough to understand the potential of the event IF well broadcasted and filmed. I'm a former amateur windsurfer and remain convinced that sport "died" because of the poor and amateuristic management and reporting back in the late nineties. Today they are not there yet. It's still a bunch of insiders doing their thing. Be careful boys, when the interest fades by lack of ways to imagine what's really happening on those boats, it won't come back.
