I am also really looking forward to moving to this instead of a basic chore chart. Your extra family chore list is genius for those moments that they really want some extra ‘work’ to do around the house. Mine always do this before a Disney day or something they want extra money for.

Thank you for this video. I didnt see you mention the monthly subscription. Do you have that? If so, do all the functions you showed also work without the subscription? One more thing, are there calendar items you can choose not to sync? Things that are personal that you dont need to display to the family/visitors. Thank you!

@@Lanaerc Great questions! I did not start with the Plus membership, but I did purchase one month of it this summer to try out. I mostly wanted it for menu planning. However, we were really busy the month that I had it, so I did not use it to its full potential. The photo screen saver option was really fun though. They have just rolled out new features for Plus members, like routines, and at this point, I think I am ready to get the one-year membership. That all said, we have used it for several months without Plus and it is still a fantastic calendar and chore chart! As far as hiding certain things on the calendar, my kids, husband, and I all use Google calendars that we sync to the Skylight. I'm pretty sure I could remove an item from the Skylight calendar without it removing from my phone's calendar too. Another workaround for this would be having a separate Google Calendar that you put private events in, but that seems to be a little more work than I'd like. Overall, this is an absolutely amazing calendar/chore chart and it has helped our family be significantly more organized, and in the loop with each other's schedules.

It would be nice if Skylight added a feature that showed you the statistics of if you accomplished your chores or not. It could help someone see which things they keep missing the goal of, so you can consider what is more important and maybe how to reevaluate your own methods of getting all your tasks done.

@@Dixey3 I like that idea. I think they are working on a reward type system, which may cover like what you're talking about. Since I posted this video I have began putting my work (blogger) into my schedule, and assigning tasks for different days. It has greatly improve my workflow and productivity! I want to get one for my 21 year old daughter for the same purpose.

Thank you! This is just the info I wished for when I was spending hours researching how this might work for our family. My kids have had zero complaints about it and it has taken so much work out of my week in terms of homeschool planning and assigning chores. We have shuffled chores around from kid to kid, and days of the week and it's been such an easy process to do.

Two questions: 1. Is there a way to filter the calendar display to only show events in certain categories at a time? 2. What happens when chores are not completed in their day? Can they be automatically pushed to another day until they have been completed? Or do they just disappear even if not completed?

Oooo these are great questions! Yes! You can easily select which calendars/categories you'd like to show at any time. Sometimes I have all showing, other times I just select one child's calendar to see what they have going on. As far as the chores you can choose if they show up the next day. In the settings on the Skylight, select "Chores", & the option will appear to "show late chores".

You can make changes with the synced calendars from a computer, but there are not many other features available through the browser yet. I did read in the Facebook group that is something they have taken a note of and plan to work on. I use the app and it is extremely user-friendly. I have heard multiple people say they have the app, and so does their husband so they can both be updating the calendar and chores, etc.

One more question! Can you look back to how many times a person has completed their chores? Does it show a calendar view to see who has been completing what?

@@marielgrimm1249 You can look back to previous days to see what has been completed. I heard they may be working on a reward system that may track that better. You can click on each person's category to see what they've done on the current and previous days. Can you first click the chores button on the app it brings up all of the chores that have not been completed yet.

I’m a homeschooling mom of 4 and this review is exactly what I needed to see!! 2 question I have- is it easy to cancel the free trial that they offer? Also, how does it update when they change something? Is it through the app?

I did not go with the Plus option, but I would assume that it is easy to cancel just based on all the great things I have seen and heard about their customer service in the Facebook group. I do not think that it would be an issue at all. I think the updates just show up, I have not noticed that I needed to do anything special. It is possible that there have not been any noticeable updates since I have had it. I think they are rolling out the option for vertical mode on this model in June so I will update then if there is anything special that I need to do to get the update.

OK So you added a school category for each kid and then a chore category separate? And you mentioned it automatically made a new category if your calendar was color coded already? I use my google calendar and my whole family is each assigned a color haha So this would make it slightly easier when I went to set it up? I have been debating one of these for a while now but my dry erase calendar isn't cutting it with work schedules, sports, AHG, co-ops, etc. Like you said I'd get irritated if something changed and I had already written it in the planner all pretty. Do you still enjoy the 15in or wish you'd have gotten the bigger one? We are a family of 6.

@@sunflowereyes716 Thanks for your comment! I'm absolutely satisfied with the 15-inch, I wouldn't want anything bigger. I need it as a tool, not a focal point if that makes sense. It puts off blue light like a TV screen. At 15" it doesn't bother me, at 27" it might. I can see everything that I need to on the 15 inch screen. If you end up with multiple categories when you sync your calendar you can just remove a category and merge it to another one super easily in the app. That my older kids Google calendars, but it was a quick fix. When I tell you I love this thing, I truly mean it. I am so frugal and did so much research before purchasing one. Seriously by about day two I was regretful I had not bought one sooner, and that's not typical for me. It has just made the home run SO much smoother. I love that you can download the app ahead of time and start getting it organized before the calendar even arrives. There are so many things to keep organized these days, and the mental load for parents is A LOT. This has helped to lighten my mental load.

I’d just reached out to the company asking if there’s the option to create custom charts SO THAT I could use it for homeschooling. I thought you could only have 5 users? I have 5 kids whom I homeschool and could really use the help setting up the extra charts. Can you show a video of how you set up school charts vs chores?

@@marielgrimm1249 Yes, absolutely! My 3 homeschool age kids each have 2 "categories", one for household chores and one for school assignments. Their colors are the same as their regularly assigned chore colors, but I put a "1." In front of their name for school. I'll try to record another video so that's more clear. It's easy to schedule those school tasks on repeat and for certain days of the week. If I knew people could hop on live I would do a live video so I could answer questions as I go. We love this calendar here!

It needs to be plugged in to operate. That is one of the reasons I opted to put it on a shelf, rather than on a wall, so I could conceal the cord a little bit better.

Can you add calendars from multiple persons? I homeschool and work from home plus my husband runs a small business. And we are constantly having to send invites from the different phone calendars can we both add our schedules there?

@@D11_GIG Yes! I have 19 calendars, 5 from our home and others related to work and homeschooling and they are all able to sync if I would like them too. They're Google calendars.

Does it create a shared calendar for all family members, or does it also provide each family member with their own calendar? Lastly, when a family member enters something into a shared calendar, does it alert you?

Since I have a 16 and a 21 year old, as well as younger children and my husband who use this we all sync our Google Calendars to the Skylight. Each family member has their own color category, so I can click on their category/ color and see just their personal events or I can see the whole family calendar at once if I don't select one person first. That is the default. There isn't an alert that they've shared an event, but it does show up instantly on the Skylight. So to explain this a little bit further I will use my oldest daughter as an example. She has her own Google Calendar that she gives us access to view her events, but not edit them. So on the Skylight everyone in the family is able to see her events, as well as all other events created by anyone else in the family or made on the Skylight.

Hopefully, that makes sense. Feel free to ask any more questions. To me, it was such a big ticket item that I did so much research before I finally purchased one. It's an investment, and it takes a tiny bit of time to get set up, but once it is up and running it helps the whole house run smoother!

@@Pixie_Falls10 I have seen in the Facebook group where some people do that. It does not come with hardware for mounting on a refrigerator, but it does come with wall mounts for hanging, as well as a stand to put on a counter or shelf. I have seen some people have had success hanging theirs with 3M command strips. I didn't want to risk it with ours, and we didn't have a convenient plug-in near the fridge for it.

Does your calendar make a phantom click/noise about 4 seconds after to perform an item on the device? For example, you select the + to add an event and then exit/cancel out of it. Wait for 4 seconds, does it make a click noise?

It does! I cannot unhear it now that I know what I'm listening for. It's just as you described. I adjusted my volume settings and that does not seem to make a difference. It's such a faint sound, so it isn't bothersome.
