I played on the WoL server for the first time today as it had the highest playercount. The moment I spawned in, I watched 2x Bf109's try to take off from their spawn area, cut across the runway and all the taxyways HORIZONTALLY and plough directly into a BF110 who was following the rules and trying to take off on the runway correctly. Much lulz were had. I also bombed my first factory in the Stukka which was sick, need to play the campaign more so I can unlock the Bf110.

2:50 -- There are several WW2-era declassified films for training purposes, that do nothing but point out the key features of aeroplanes likely to be encountered, friend and foe. It is a useful skill, and really isn't that hard to develop either. I've always found it easiest to ID by the profile, particularly the shape of the vertical stabilizer(s) which is frequently common for several types of aircraft. Consider, for a second, the normal shape of a Zero's tail and compare it to other Japanese fighters or bombers.

Hi Bismark. I finally bought the BOS. unfortunately, I need to upgrade my video card to get decent graphics. Meantime, I'd like to ask your expertise in the subject (perhaps you can post a video :-)) regarding ME109's flaps. Each wing has 3 moving flaps. I'm a bit confused with this. The 2 inner flaps (upper & lower) sometimes go down together & sometimes not. Does the inner (lower) flaps & outer flaps sincronised or are they independent to one another? I watched some flight videos on take off & landings but they seem to have been using different combinations. Maybe you can enlighten me (us) with this? Thanks.

at 2:56 right after he says the wings are an easy way to identify a plane.. Right when that yak shows up in front of Bismark i swear to god i can't tell if that's a yak or a spitfire.. Which makes me really sad because i really want to play this game but it's obvious that i should not.. :(
@MosoKaiser
@MosoKaiser 7 жыл бұрын
The wing shapes are different. Spitfire has an elliptical wing with more sharply rounded tips (or clipped wing tips - no idea if those variants are in BoS yet) than on Yaks, while those on a Yak are more or less straight sided, tapering down to round tips. Also, the radiator intake scoop is under the wing on the Spitfire vs. under the fuselage on the Yak.

Today i played on the wings of liberty server and i did 1 sortie with my yak-1. It was my first time flying without overheating my engine. A few kilometers away from a german airfield i spotted a Bf 109 who just took off and still had it's lights on. After diving on this guy i got involved in a skirmish between what looked 2-3 Bf 109's and 2 russian planes, me included. After i messed up my dive on that guy i engaged another plane. This time i didn't mess up my dive but i just completely missed my shots. Then i turned around to engage the other 2 Bf 109's and on my way to them i saw another Bf 109 who just joined the fight, dive on me. I instantly started doing some defensive maneuvers but i actually didn't know where he really was. I was just turning to the left and right trying to prevent him from shooting me but all of a sudden i did take a light hit(just a fuel tank hit). And then the fight got serious: I look behind me and i see 3 Bf 109's within 200 m of me firing at me. While my hearth was razing like mad i started doing some aggressive maneuvers trying to shake 'em off. My maneuvers were succesful and for a second i thought i could turn the fight. 2 of the 3(for as far as i knew) overshot and were in reach for me to turn onto their six and get some hits in but then when i looked behind me, there were another 2 Bf 109's on my six. One of them got a nice hit injuring my pilot. Due to that i lost the control of my plane for a split second and after i recovered, the nose of my plane was pointing to the ground. At that point i thought it was over. But luckely i was able to pull up from that dive and fly right above the ground(probably like 1-5 m). As my pilot was injured i couldn't put up much of a fight and i just tried to roll to the left and right a bit trying to dodge the shells but i still took hits. All of a sudden a plane from above hits my prop and flies away. Because he rammed my prop, it was obviously destroyed and forced me to bellyland. After i landed i saw a plane crashing into the ground next to me. So after i had put my plane down i thought i had taken 2 Bf 109's with me without firing a single shell at them. But when i watched the replay, it turned out i took out 3 of the 6 Bf 109's. In the replay you can see how 4 Bf 109's are on my tail initially and later on 2 other Bf 109's join. The guy who rammed my prop was also the guy who crashlanded next to me. So the other 2 planes that crashed just simply ran into eachother. I would like to show you the replay but do you want me to give the replay file or do you want me to put it on youtube?

Can BoS and BoM players join the same server? For example, can you play against enemies using Battle of Moscow planes even if you do not own Battle of Moscow? Or do they fragment the playerbase into haves/havenots?

I wish that the damned 109 wing slats could be disabled permanently (screwed shut) as many Luftwaffe pilots had done in real life. There needs to be a "Lock wing slats closed" or "Nail the f**king slats closed" option in set up preferences. Just try to pull a "Detachment" or "Retournement" aerobatic in BoS and experience the damned slats causing the 109 to stop dead at 90 Degrees as if held by invisible hands. (It's the slats screwing up the aerobatic). So instead of pulling a "Retournement" and appearing to cartwheel one's 109 from in front to directly behind the nasty red fighter on one's 6, the damned slats cause the 109 to hang in the air as a sitting duck at a 90 to 100 degree cant. Perform the same manoeuvre in a Yak or LaGG or FW or even a Stuka and the aerobatic completes as it should do. I can see why Adolf Galland wrote in his memoirs that he had his locked shut after his first test flight in a 109 F in 1940 as they denied a whole host of bacon saving aerobatics.
@griffn14
@griffn14 7 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I read about a pilot that could turn inside a Spitfire (IIRC) by using the slats. But most pilots did not like them though.
@CZ350tuner
@CZ350tuner 7 жыл бұрын
The thing is that wing slats are intended to prevent the wing stalling and the plane flipping over when in a turn so tight that wingtip's airspeed drops below stalling speed. However this very preventative "safety" device also reduces the aircraft's agility when it come to performing complex aerobatics that depend on deliberately stalling a wingtip / wing to trigger a sequence of events. Try to pull a "Retournement" (a barrel roll and loop combined), pull split S whilst in a turn to loose a Yak on your 6, pull a "Detachment" (nose up, fly belly first and kick rudder to hard over (watch "Dogfights" show)) or a host of other advanced dogfight aerobatics. Kind of annoying that what I can pull in a Stuka (when desperate) cant be done in a 109 (when I'm in deep s**t).
@griffn14
@griffn14 7 жыл бұрын
Are there any other maneuvers one could use instead? The Bf has a high rate of climb, so to get rid of someone from their six, a climbing spiral would be the most effective - at least the books say so.
@CZ350tuner
@CZ350tuner 7 жыл бұрын
Spiralling upwards and out climbing an opponent is not always an option if say a La-5 is on one's 6. Never had to fly a sim where wing slats actually worked properly and I can now see why pilots hated them. Modern aircraft have the pusher plate (which the slat springs push against) latchable so the damned things can be activated / deactivated according to the pilot's intentions. Back in WW2 either the ground crews removed the springs and jammed them closed or you had to adapt one's dogfight tricks bag of skills to miss out certain things. The idea was that it would make the 109 safer and easier to fly for rookie pilots and they saved many from pilot errors (stalling the wing tip and flipping over whilst landing / taking off. For an experienced veteran of online sim dogfights since the 1990's, I use a combination of energy, vertical and aerobatic tricks to evade and hopefully turn the tables on the player on my 6. Some are just a reflex action and I find myself occasionally caught out by the 109 wing slats and stuck part way through an aerobatic like a winged piñata. Try this one out to see what I mean: Fly fast and level, pull back on the stick, hard left on the aerolons and hard left on the rudder at the same time. The plane should, without slats, perform a left hand "Snap Roll". However on the 109 the slats will open more on one wing and invisible hands will grab the plane and hold it at a 100 degree cant to the left. (Most likely the ghostly hand's of Stalin reaching out from Hell). If one is a less abrupt with the rate of increase in controls the plane will perform a "Retournement" which is what the German 109 ace pulls in the film "Red Tails" when he cartwheels from in front of a P-40 to right behind it. Despite idiots saying its CGI fantasy it is actually a real life aerobatic invent by the French WW1 fighter ace Rennie La Fonque. It takes lots and lots of practice, timing and skill to perform but can be done even in BoS...... except in the 109 with wing slats!! What's more worrying is that it is easy to pull in a Yak or La-5!!
@griffn14
@griffn14 7 жыл бұрын
That seems like a flight model glitch if it stops like that in a bank. The slats increase critical AoA a couple of degrees, it doesn't seem like a real plane would behave that way especially with full rudder. Have you tried what would happen if up elevator and left rudder were applied, followed by right aileron? Maybe that could do the trick or it would just enter a spin? I saw a scene from Red Tails in which a Mustang did some kind of a somersault around lateral axis to get on the tail of a Bf behind him. I find it completely unrealistic. It seems to me that they misunderstood that maneuver - it should have been a 360 degree snap roll - a somersault like that is possible only with vectored thrust jets.

Bismarck Kind of. I am still playing original Il 2 1946. Still in love. Mostly only reason i started ww2 sims like this was destruction. Seriously, Il 2 1946 have best destruction by part. Every wing is like made of 3-10 parts. Big maps and a lot of fan made content. One of things made me bad about il 2 BoS are DLC planes. They are good but kind of overpriced. 10 euros/ dollars would fit better
