Great video. Question. I noticed the airfoil design on that wing. How well did that perform compared to a KFM or Traditional airfoil. It's a good looking wing. Let me know pleased.

Using a Wattmeter and checking the current before flight will always help you out. Every motor has a data sheet in which you must check the maximum current. Then you choose a prop which simply doesn't overload your system. Also downsizing to 3S instead of 4S will be a good solution. I would recommend not choosing a pitch that is too small. 4" to 5" forces you to run higher rpm for cruising speed, which will make your drivetrain feel less powerful and kicky. 6" or 8" may be better, check it out. And while I'm at it - what's the point of edging the wing surface? Using a proper airfoil with a rounded top doesn't really hurt. 😁

@@HilmarLange I've checked the charts for both motors I've ran on this plane and tried multiple props. I've ran 3s and 4s and have come close to the right combo. I have a couple more props to try and may also try 3s again. But I'm getting close to getting the perfect match. The airfoil I should have made round. Really no reason why I didn't do it on this plane. Just wanted to do a simple airfoil similar to what flight test does on their planes. It works fine. I still have some experimenting to do with the motor,prop and battery combo. But that's half the fun of scratch building!

Been lurking this build, what motor size and kv? How many amp esc, and what battery?

@@suededub I'm running a badass 2620 1030 KV motor with a badass 60 amp esc and a liperior 3300 mah 4s. I'm still experimenting with the prop size. Currently running a 12x4.5 and it did well for several flights but overheated on this flight so I'm going to try a 11x5 and see how it does.

Dang hate to see that. Could’ve been a lot worse though. I could imagine flying that thing you have to keep your airspeed well above stall speed at all times, if it drops a wing it’s over. lol Should probably keep it above 50 - 60ft so if you lose power you have a chance to nose down and keep your air speed up and pray you make it to a decent landing spot.. lol

@@EJ-74 it's something that just happens. There's no warning and no control. I've ran this prop on several flights with no issues. No way to prepare for it. It just lost power and went down. So I've got to try a new prop that will hopefully work without making the motor over heat.

@@EJ-74 I'm running a 60 amp. But I have a 100 I may swap out. I should be under 60 amps though or right at. I'm going to try the 11x5 prop hopefully tomorrow and see if it does better
