Isn't it funny how a lot of people have similar experiences? ... maybe you can relate. 😎

I can. I started my art journey very late, and because of some people saying you're doing great. At the beginning it was easy and I was convinced I can do this, easy cake. Now after two years, I burned out, my expectations were shattered by reality. I found out that art is not something easy achievable, it's something you have to work hard for, something you have to want. Something where quality of hours spent are more important than quantity. Something you can easily stop doing and get demotivated when your expectations miss. It was the case for me. It's not enough to just watch some tutorials or to copy some images now and then. Your words are true and I think it's very important to get this lesson, so one can find his place in the journey, and see the true way to get better. Thank you!

I 100% agree with you, especially in the last bit of your video. I think artists should stress less over social media and what is trending and focus more on their technique and growth!

i think this is a very important idea to understand for anyone. in school i was always great at math and science, academics were always easy for me so when i got into college and realized i still had to work super hard it was a reality check for me. great content as always bynde!!

Well, I sucked at math ... no surprise there I guess. but yeah, it is true in any field.

Yes! There seems to be such a celebration of mediocrity these days. Have you seen those people who 'redesign' cars, and then people say how much better than the actual designs they are? It's absolutely maddening.

Haha, I hadn't come across this yet. It is the design equivalent of too much makeup ... people who don't have a trained eye think it looks great, but in reality it's a tasteless mess.

I really appreciated the thoughts. I've always thought the way talent works is like a spring board. Like you at level 5 when everyone else starts at level 0. You still have to tons of work to get as good as really skilled artists (imagine something like level 50 art skill) but you have an easier time in the very early points. Like with guitar and art I have some talent, but I'm nowhere near as good as the people who have worked hard at it for years (I've still got a long ways to go) and I don't know if I'm even ever going to get as good as those guys (like steven silver or Gendy tartakovsky). I just know I really love to make cartoons, so I'm gonna keep trying to push myself and learn new things!

I really enjoyed all 5 parts of your digital drawing tutorial, would love to see few more like that, as well as timelapses. Also, there are some artists who make very sharp digital drawing only using the lasso tool. Could you make a video about that? Thank you for you channel, its been very helpful. By the way, your art on artstation is incredible.

I had a similar personal experience you described even multiple times over the years. When I was 8 or 9 I started getting piano lessons and within the first year, I loved it so much I just played tons of hours, so I managed to play some impressive stuff (for a kid) that no other kid in my school could play, but it was because of that, because I took the personal time outside lessons to practice, still, teachers and my parents thought it was because some magical natural talent or just pure genius. Same thing happened in later years, maybe at 19-20 when I got interested in bass and guitar, this time self taught but because TABS exist and you don't need music theory knowledge to read those, the thing is that same story repeated, in a year of learning the guitar I could play from classical stuff like Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 to some stuff by my fav metal band Opeth, but it was because I was really enjoying the process and could play and practice for hours every day, but as I said, again, people around me took it like if it was because some magic natural talent. And to the people who said that to me I always ask the same, have you ever tried to learn an art? And the common answer is yes, but after 20 minutes of practice a day for maybe a period of a week or less they didn't notice much progress, they just stopped and thought it was only for the natural talented born people. Yes, sure, there might exist natural talent, having a bigger brain, whatever. But let's be completely honest, I'm 200% sure the main factors are time, effort and focus. Also having a great teacher can help you massively even more if you don't have the patience of being a self-taught. Even with all that, I know I'm FAR from being a good musician, I know my music is shit, I just record stuff in my bedroom for fun since I don't even know how to produce music, but for me, its a really fun hobby I have to disconnect from the common adult life (in the end I became a programmer). Great video.

I'd say art wise everything you truely get something out of is worth doing. I know I need to disconnect from "common adult life" quite a bit.

I've heard it called "gifted kid syndrome" and I really relate to it. I feel like I was raised to believe that if I try something, and it doesn't come out well, then I'm just not cut out for it and I shouldn't pursue it. I was literally in a gifted kids program and I feel like it wasn't very good for me, ultimately, because of this. I've been working against this for a while now, trying my damnedest not to believe it, but it's an internalized feeling and it's hard to get rid of. I am not innately good at art. Most people aren't. But I really enjoy drawing and I want to excel at it. If I want to do this, I have to be able to do something, look at it, and realize it's not good, and for my next thought to be "I will do better next time" rather than "I'm not good enough, I can't do it"

I also thought i was pretty good until my first year of art school, it was humbling to say the least loll. but yeah i feel like being surrounded by so many talented and hardworking people helped me grow as an artist too, loved the environment and the social aspect of it. Another banger video bynde, keep at it!

Hey Bynde great video man, something similar hapened to me, i had some troubles in the beginning of my art journey with the dangerous idea of "Art Genius" or "Talented for Art" the thing is... my family ( i don't blame them they are good people ) they thought... i'm talented and i don't need to learn stuff i don't need any art education , so here we are trying to learn what i couldn't when i was young.... and other thing they never cared about it cause thought that Art is not a career and if i make it in to the Art world would be very easy, and here i am working as an artist and trying to improve and learn all the same time haha! and like you in my teen years i kinda stoped with the art stuff, but then everything came back i think beign a teen is just like that, i don't blame enyone but all of that is true, and life ways are uncertain, only thing we can do is get done what we can we get done, great glass by the way i have one in home just like that one LOL!

Isn't "your own hype" or "your genius" is your individuality as an artist? theoretically in fine art terms it doesn't matter what's on the page so long as someone resonates with the message. You are absolutely right in that people who don't do art think your art is amazing because they can't achieve that, but isn't that who you're making it for? Other artists who "judge" your work are judging it based on their own creative theories and taste which is why their art is different from your own. Make art for people who can't make it for themselves not people who would judge you for "doing it wrong"
@bynde8638
@bynde8638 Ай бұрын
You're right. Art in a general sense doesn't need to be judged ... I personally think you should do it for yourself mostly. But when it crosses over to being a "job" there are other factors that come into play.

yeah, i'm not genius in anything, i just try to do what i love, work to live and enjoy life treasure. I am never someone, just me until the end of my life, I try to be better than myself. Learn something from someone better than me always is my way. I never try to the best, i try to be good.
