@@tonybino01 most of manila and alot of the pinas became a slum in general and its mostly the Filipinos fault. If we look here, do we see how nice the buildings are and how clean the streets are? go to most parts of manila now and there is basura everywhere and buildings are ill kept and not well maintained. Somehow the next generations didn't have the same respect, care and passion for their cities and country as pinoys of the past did. its very unfortunate as manila and alot of places could have the opportunity to be as nice as in this video again.

Remember this was the time when we were backed by the Americans. After the war and independence, we were left on our own, not realizing that we were not really ready for self-governance. Tagalog people or Manileños are the most well mannered ethnic group in the Philippines. sadly nasira ang imahe ng mga Manileños dahil sa mga probinsyanong naging informal settlers noon sa manila na ang kinabuhayan ay mang snatch, magnakaw at gumawa ng krimen. In present times bihira na makakita ng mga native manileños dahil puro probinsyano or anak/apo ng probinsyano na ang nakatira sa NCR.

It became worst when Marcos allowed Muslims to resettle in Manila, especially during the civil war in Mindanao, which until now never stops and are still isolated cases of kidnapping. And in the early 60s when there was an influx of people came coming from many provinces and resettle in Manila, ending up as informal settlers.

The Tagalog people are really posh and elegant, even the poor have manners. Everything changed when different ethnicities Mish mashed and formed the Manila that we see today.
@desgner_droz8716
@desgner_droz8716 Жыл бұрын
@@GaryHFieldit has nothing to do with ethnicity. Manila crumbled because of failed urbanization policies and centralization. 20th century Manila was designed almost like an American holiday resort, not an urban center, it's not an old world city like Tokyo or Paris etc. This is where the "Philippines shouldn't have been independent" sentiments stemed, even from Rizal who wanted to remain a part of Spain. We wanted and still need the hindsight of older colonial empires. This is mostly conjecture but our infrastructure is almost entirely shaped by colonial powers even in relations to our neighbors in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia, that makes the urbanization of the Philippines a uniquely challenging one on top of its geographical challenges, it has nothing to do with ethnicity.

With more people flocking to the capital because wages are higher HDI is better caused a lot of people to move in and as we know. it goes like this "More People = More Space Occupied, Harder Organization for Urban Planning , unbalanced wealth distribution and opportunities = Poverty, Increase in crime rate etc" . The only way to restore Manila is for people to leave or find a way to decentralize the capital by any means

Now I see why Filipinas was once dubbed as “Perla de Oriente”. The classiest nation in Asia at the time. You couldn’t even tell a person was poor based on their clothing. I wish it was still like that today the problem is pagaya gaya ang Filipinas sa Estados Unidos kasi kaya nawala ang ating identidad. Thank you for sharing this video. Any videos from the Spanish Era? Like wearing skirt during 20s and 30s above knees or showing the knees was very provocative and that was already considered as a mini skirt. Every latest fashion style of every era were used to be seen as not appropriate from those time befor up until now. Studying history includes fashion and trends.

When I look at these, I'm curious to know if I'm seeing my grandparents or my aunts and uncles (as they were only kids and my mom hadn't been born as of 1937). I wonder if they are in these films.

Filipino traditions, cultures, beliefs, and principles were the strong foundation of who we are. But it's corrupted by openly accepting and being influenced by other countries. Keep it strong, Filipinos. Mabuhay.

Looks like this has recently been digitized to 1080p (or more) at 60 fps, speed corrected, cleaned up and colorized. Also, ambient sound has been added to match the scene. Nice video restoration.

@@sureshmukhi2316 From the book: Misterios de Filipinas. Novela original de D. Antonio Garcia del Canto Published 1859 "The mayor does not know the language. His interpreter is the clerk of court, an indio, and the chief troublemaker. The clerk of court is almost always in agreement with the rich indios. Because the mayor is a businessman in reality, naturally he is more interested in his business than agents and he lets the clerk run the court. The clerk becomes the arbitrator and this is how the clerk makes himself a fortune."

All my fellow kababayans in the comments with a colonial mentality glorifying and romanticizing colonialism! Galing mo ha g! You’re a part of the problem. Please decolonize and heal historic generational trauma. 500+ is enough diba?! This isn’t us either. Shaming our ancestors who sacrificed so much for it all to be destroyed, taken away and forgotten!
