As long as I have been riding bikes (39 years) Hans Rey has been there in the scene shining the light on MTB. The gap jump he did high in the mountains in this, he did with Steve Peat and the images in the photo shoot were amazing Is he in the MTB hall of Fame? Bloody well hope so. A pioneer .

So nice to see people from the very early days of mountainbiking still around, and still having fun, spreading the joy. Read so many mtb magazines those days, and was in awe at the stuff he pulled off. Nice video!

Thanks Hans for changing many people's lives for the better .History tells us that many cyclists consider themselves purists thus resist change. The uptake of Emtbs is simply the Evolution of human thinking to accept the fantastic technology that allows us to enjoy life even more. I don't think they are for racing just Fun Fun Fun and it's not one or the other but ride both Emtbs and naturally aspirated mtbs to enhance the joy of cycling. Emtbs turn us into gleeful kids again. They are a Time Machine. E=Mtb²

Hans was my hero back in the 90's, i bought a GT Zaskar brand new in 1994 after watching his Level Vibes video, remember a feature on him saying he used to put Coca Cola on his wheel rims to make the old Cantilever brakes work better. He will always be a Legend.

Awesome! Great to see how Hans impacted biking and took it beyond riding from A to B. I saw a news clip of some guy in LA hopping over cars in a traffic jam in order to get to a scheduled interview. This was when I took notice of Hans del Rey. I got his autograph when he came to John Henry Bicycles in North Vancouver to help support mountain biking in North Vancouver. He's a legend.

I've had my XCR3000 since I bought it new in 2000. Love that bike still to this day. Went to buy a new bike last year and the GT rep told me nothing for like 8 or 9 months because of supply issues. Went with my second choice, a YT. Still ride my 2000 GT from time to time as it works so well on some tight trails here and I'll be looking for a GT again in the future.

Not many around who rode with a HiteRite! The wife still has one on her original mountain bike, now the townie! Droppers are SO much better! They actually WORK! Funny how Hans talks about the use of riser bars and move away from flats, and then the bike he's on has bars with virtually no rise! (3:05, for example)

Most of the delay in people taking up new tech is that it has to be around for a while and go through a few iterations before it stops being unreliable overpriced junk so it makes sense that non-pro's with limited budgets let the pro's and early adopters test the new designs before it's safe for them to put their money down. The one thing that hasn't got better over the past few iterations from Shimano is gear shifting though - why does downshifting on my 2x12 rear derailleur need me to apply about twice the force at the shifter that the same downshift on a 3x10 drivetrain 1st generation clutch derailleur needs (This is with exactly the same cable and full length externally routed outer setup on two of my hardtails, so the setup couldn't be any more similar). This is bad enough that I'm now looking at a Pinion gearbox setup for any new bike I buy rather than continue to deal with Shimano's trend towards high shifting force. The really sad thing is that front derailleur shifting on 2x12 is the best Shimano has ever made, but most people will never get to try it thanks to bike frames being almost universally incompatible with front derailleurs.
