They aren’t disappointed that the time ran out, they are just disappointed at YOU the player(s) for making them do nothing. In Reimu’s case, knowing her lazy personality. She is wondering why she is trying to resolve this incident in the first place. In Marisa’s case, she is disappointed not being able to master spark someone. In Koishi’s case, she is wondering why she was doing nothing but staring at a wall (completely oblivious she is not being controlled by you, also the cutest draw animation) In Ichirin’s case, she was also disappointed her time was wasted while trying to solve the incident. In Nitori’s case, the machine malfunctioned because it wanted to get Nitori to activate windows. In Futo’s case, she just realized why she is fighting her clone after a long staring contest. In Byakuren’s case, she is disappointed she was unable to bring peace towards herself (her clone). In Kokoro’s case, you helped her discovered a new emotion after doing nothing for so long. (Which is a good thing?) In Miko’s case, she thinks you are a joke for making the battle so boring. In Kasen’s case, she is so disappointed that she decides to lecture her eagle why it was not doing anything since it is technically an “npc?” In Mokou’s case, she is disappointed why she is not fighting Kaguya instead since at least the latter can show a good fight. In Mamizou’s case, she did nothing for too long that she got a back ache from lack of physical activity. In Shinmyoumaru’s case, she is displaying her frustration towards you by imagining you being smacked by her hammer. In Reisen’s case, she just realized why she is fighting herself, most likely she is going insane herself too. In Doremy’s case, she is unamused she was not doing anything in the dream world due to your amusement of doing nothing. In Sumireko’s case, she tries to message you (don’t ask how) on her phone, but while trying to do so, she accidentally dropped it down onto the road at an extreme height. In Tenshi’s case she is disappointed at you for making her bored yet again knowing her boring life as a celestial. In Joon’s case, she just realized her time was being wasted when she was supposed to be stealing stuff. And Shion? Well she already accepted her fate a long time ago and expected that to happen at one point anyways.

this might just be me, but tasofro is incredible for these animations they SCREAM personality despite only being an animation that appears when you run out of time, which might not be seen very often it's just amazing that they put in this much detail
