I was there in the 80's and early 90's (Before the takeover) and people of Hong Kong enjoyed a fairly free and decent lifestyle...Obviously, just like any other huge city, you have districts that are bad and house the less fortunate and there was a struggle, just like it is anywhere else. I never lived there, so I can't say for sure, but most of the people I talked to there seemed to be doing ok. Since the takeover I read that things have plummeted quite a bit and they are no longer free like they were. Which sucks.

sadly, there are other sides to Hong Kong than what you see here. there are alleyways with trash thrown in them, homeless sleeping under bridges, and people living in tiny apartments (subdivided flats) around 40 square feet, according to Google, as well as people living in cages since they can't afford to rent subdivided flats.

There are 4.000.000$ cars and $2.000. Both are in the end, cars and not a child's toy.

As a British Cantonese, with long roots in HK. I find these videos very disgusting actually... and borderline atrocious as well. And that the so called "investments" has ended up with something of this level... and ruining the world as well. Really bad !!!!! I hope that one day, several of these buildings wouldbe blown up and taken down. Like a lot of it. Cos it does not belong there at all. Enough of this merry go round. People just shuffle their goods back and forth expecting money to bump up each time. Time that this is stopped. It doesn't work. And never worked ! The last trip I went to HK.. ended up with what.... I went to Wong Tai Sin... to wanted to pray. And it has commercialised SO much !!!! I went to a store and the lady said that it was actually a good time to pray because it was Buddha's Day. So yeh... after 13 years of not being there. I bought it. And then she even said that she could burn it for me. I didn't trust such services... and in the end, I gave it back to her to burn in my wishes. (In that moment... my heart sank a lot.. really heavily. Why? Cos I know that she would reuse those items again and actually not even burn the incense for me. I know that is what she would do ? Cos I could see that she scribbled the top notes only which means that it would leave the other stack left over.) Something like this.. a simple thing.. becomes an actual corruption now. Now I am starting to get why the riots.. and what else has been happening.

Tony Au hkg...one of my most favourite cities in the world. A truly spectacular place with sensory overload at every opportunity.
