Break Heart Orchard

2 жыл бұрын

We are a married couple, building our dream house in the Mountains.
We have incorporated wooden Post and Beam and SIPS construction to create a comfortable and energy efficient house.
We did the rough plumbing ourselves, had the foundation poured and got some help on the first few days of framing. We also hired out the instal of the standing seam metal roof but for better or worse, everything else has been the two of us, learning as we go.
If you enjoy this video, please give it a "thumbs up". And feel free to share it. Hitting that like button helps us to reach a wider audience.
We invite you to Subscribe and follow along as we complete our dream house build.
Special thanks to Pedro, George, Lauren, Matt and Anthony.
Sometimes a helping hand is the difference between success and failure.

Not a construction guy, but I loved seeing those big 10x8's(?) roof support beams being set in place. Here in Europe you never see those outside of historic buildings because of the cost and the fact that we so rarely build with real wood.

You had me sold on the views alone it's breath taking. I am in love. My husband and I are not social animals some would call us cold or uninviting but we're not we just like solitude and quite happy in our own little world. We both have strong families and that's enough. Been a recluse for most of my life introverted they call it. Always have to put a name on something that is quite simple. We spent a good 30 years house flipping but we made a vow that if we ever came upon our dream home then we would cut down and eventually give flipping up which we have done now my husband restores Grandfather clocks old Ferguson tractors and Stationary engines. We set up accounts and paid into it every single month for materials and such like so we had no debt. Raised a family of 5. Then 13 years ago we found our dream house. I live in England a long way from you. Its been a labour of love and I am never moving. I am in awe of all people who do this live a life their way it's infectious regardless of where you live. Thank you for sharing your project and as it's only this one I have seen I need to see more

When my husband and I built our first house, we were young, not much money and it was so stressful. The contractor drove us crazy and the dumbest things we would fight about. Apple in bloom one minute,, snow the next!! Great job,, beautiful ,, happy, busted,, helper ,,lol... My doctor was gonna do sips,, but he ended up framing with 2x12 and then 2x4 to run the pipes wires,, windows were trim out with 16 inch wide pine,, maple & cherry to match rooms!! #1clear cedar shingles,, metal roof 26 solar panels!! timber frame was all timbers inside 10x10,, 10x16 blown in form walls,, radiant 8 inch cement floor...Took a year to tie it up...Aloha

Nice place. We build using mono trusses sloping to the north with a lot of glass on the south wall. I looked into using SIPPS but they are very expensive to get shipped here so I went double stud walls with closed cell foam insulation in the walls.

The biggest challenge is time and weather. Weather beats up building materials. With just two people (building part time) it can be very difficult.

Bonne continuation.
