I love this video for the magnificent undertaking of this build and also for an entirely different reason than most. As I'm watching this video, my very young nephew came over and asked what I was looking at. So I said, "some people building a cabin in the woods." He then asked, "how many trees do you have to cut down to build a cabin?" So I told him, what was so cool is the fact that these people re-used a lot of wood from an old farmhouse that they had from a long time ago. Curiosity, getting the best of his 7 year old mind, he asked me a very good question. "Uncle Tim, why don't we have an old farmhouse so we can build us a cabin?" For context, we are African American. Now, now, now, wait...just let me get it out first! lol. Long story short, I explained that there was a time when our grandpa's and grandma's were not allowed to own a farmhouse so If we wanted to build a cabin in the woods, we would certainly have to cut down lots of trees. (He's recently been learning in school about the Earth, animals, and how to live in harmony with nature). His response to me was this. "Uncle Tim, we should build a farmhouse anyway, so if anybody else wants to build a cabin they won't have to cut down a bunch of trees!" WOW.....you just gotta love the simple goodness of kids. So now he is as hell bent as a 7 year old can be about saving trees and building things. I think you guys and your video just might have started a fire on a career path for my young nephew, lol. No way you could have known or even thought this would come from the simple act of sharing your passion, and making this video. One never knows what, when, or how a path will be revealed. We watched the rest of your video, and we both would like to say thank you, especially me! Great job everyone and in every way. 8-)

I was just talking about using these types of KZbin videos about cabin building as a "class" for my son. The "Self Reliance" videos and others are good as well. These are skills most people will never have - not because they can't have them, but because these skills are no longer taught to our young people.

This was an absolute AMAZEING home you built!❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ so very stunning. I love the music you put in the background and I truly loved watching the step-by-step process. I think this is probably one of the very most admirable jobs of construction I've ever seen as well as best cabin ever and I'm not just saying that. My dad did construction call living.... from the time I was 10 I learned the process of laying concrete and helped him pouring concrete as well as laying block and then when he was 50 he decided to do only concrete and not build houses. He was a farmer as well as working for Maytag but he gave all of that up with the exception of farming and he was passionate about concrete but I learned a lot about building through him and IA went to college to be an architect, and due to the stereotype for women is architects only 10% of them are really loud still in the 21st-century from when I started in 1972 to advance and have their own office and not work under another male architect, I decided to become an interior designer. That all being said I have an appreciation for not just the skill that you have in building this fabulous two-story cabin but you're standing the plumbing the wiring everything you needed to make this such an amazing cabin especially up in the woods. I am just blown away. The finishing product is just beautiful inside and I want to live there❣️❣️😊 I went to the website where the music came from and it doesn't say the specific song you played it just takes you to sound stripe. Any chance you can tell me which song you picked out because I LOVE the music played in the background . You guys are to be highly respected for the job you did & the home you built.!! Thank you for sharing

I moved to the Missouri Ozarks 43 years ago and while I didn't build my house, I rebuilt it. It had a practically flat roof that leaked like a sieve, had NO insulation, windows leaked ( if the wind was blowing in the winter, it would snow inside), had cold running water in the kitchen (tho the well went dry the second year), an outhouse, the subfloor was inadequate---I could go on but you get the picture. I wish I had had a video camera then to record the transformation over the years. I had to do everything very slowly, as I got enough money to do the work. I did the majority of it myself, teaching myself skills that I had no experience with. Some months I would buy 4 or 5 boards because that was all I could afford. I did it all with a hand saw because I couldn't afford a chop saw or circular saw or any other time saving tool. No nail gun either. It was a lot of work and I enjoyed most of it. I now have it pretty much how I want it and I am getting too old to take care of it (79). But I still wish I could have made a video after watching videos on KZbin about people building their dream houses.

This truly is a barn rebuilt, but not very much a homey home or cabin. I know I'll get hate but, this is an example of people that have skills in everything but consistent structural style, interior design, functional people spaces or structural planning. This has over 800 dislikes because people in the know, know this. I'm sure the builders accomplished their goals and that's all that actually matters for them, but this is not a good example for people to follow if you want a full time home off grid or otherwise. There's so many design flaws to mention. I love the location! Building next a small stream, adding a dam for power and a pond is very nice. 👍

As I watched I had one "criticism", then that beautiful waterwheel was rolled out and so I paused with my comment. As much as I love everything you did and the way you did it, I think it could/can be improved with a bit more contrast (some light, some darker, perhaps painted wood or other material) that really sets off the wood and other reclaimed old and honest material. The affect can be greater. That said, I'm ready to move into your beautiful rustic cabin with pond, etc Cheers from Vancouver, BC, Canada
