Dear Lad, you are an amazing carpenter. I am 98 yrs old and My Greatfather used to build cabins for a place called Apple Island and the cabins were different sizes. And they would use only what they had and from the local tress etc.. How did you get electric there? To heat your cabin? You are such a wonderful carpenter. Your Mum and Pop must be so proud of you . God Bless and be safe Lad.

Yes, he seemed to do much of the work by hand but, at some point he is using electric. He also has a propane stove, I see. There are some great rechargeable battery packs available and at the end he installed solar. My question would be: Where is the toilet?

I enjoyed it immensely too. I personally haven't seen that work ethic in the young people in my area. It's kind of sad and it's not that their folks aren't hard working, they just don't seem to be motivated or curious about how to use the tools. I don't know what it is. Maybe they're just not hungry enough.

@@CIST3 You do have to ponder just what motivates some to be this ambitious and others to exclaim, 'There's nothing to do in this burg' when there is a great big land of opportunity lying at their feet. If only someone would give 'em the nudge, and a little guidance and a heap of confidence. The youth in my cross roads to everywhere in the middle of nowhere town are too oft' heard to complain about the lack of things to do, but they sit for hours gaming in their respective rooms alone, virtually in a fantasy world with peeps unkown. It just saddens me to the core.

I had both. But I never had music. The courses were what given that semester, electricity sewing cooking or house and garden (using very light tools). We have a swimming pool too. Vey possible that his job had nothing to do with carpentry. If he was an accountant, I doubt they would care that he was gifted carpenter. They would likely want someone with math skills. And people aren't generally laid off because of performance issues but because of financial issues with the company. I knew plenty of hard working, skilled people who got laid off during the pandemic. Many businesses were completely shut down for months, some never reopened.

WOW!, what a job. This Is exactly what Mike Rowe is talking about, Learn a trade at school! My dad went to high school and the following Monday started a 2 year trade school learning wood working, some metal work and electrical. He was working night jobs at a factory that made everything from picture frames to wooden delivery crates for milk and soda bottles. When the great depression hit, college grads couldn't find work but he was working 60 hours a week! Later on he served our country working as a airplane mechanic in the army air corp's in Harrisburg PA.! Although he found a new career in white collar office work do to health reason, my father never ceased to amaze me when my mom had a vision of some furniture or decorative item and my Dad was able to design & build it for her beyond her expectations! She was always so proud of his abilities. And I'm so thankful he taught me well. That young man in this video should inspire people to learn to work with their hands. Your Knowledge will never fail you during your life, and always pass it on to the next generation.

Mike Rowe???? That jerk made a living by talking about how there are jobs in America that nobody will do. What he didn't say is that there are jobs in America that only disposable undocumented desperate people will do. There's no job that Americans won't do if the pay and conditions are right. It's called supply and demand. If a job needs to be done, Americans will do the job. The free market will dictate pay as long as literal slaves are kept out of the labor supply. Mike Rowe is nobody to quote.

Love your vision and talents. Love the added touch of the Nordic faces. I'm American my ancestors came over around 1719, my brother the ancestry sleuth in the family, did the bulk of his research way before the internet. Said possible earlier begins we come from Nordic back ground. Lakin is the name that came over from England the Midlands. I always ask people I meet from England if they ever heard of anyone with that name...the answer is always No.

For anyone curious, he previously worked for Great Big Story, a youtube channel which did really interesting videos on everything from culture to nature. Sadly, it was owned by a big news company (can't remember which) that ultimately didn't see GBS as profitable enough and shut it down. One of the last videos on the channel was actually the original video of him building this as his tiny office. I glad to see he's started his own channel and it still making videos! Can't wait to hopefully see more from all the GBS staff in the future!

I was never taught carpenter/builder skills and I respect people who just tackle a project head on. My question is HOW some people get the skills they need and able to construct something like this. Even pros seem to differ on SOME building skills and application - so which do you learn or use. I would be anxious I'd leave some important part, item, rule, out and it would leave out an important step you're supposed to take. ugh. . I live in a brick house, gonna stay put !! Love this though !!!

@@noelpadilla2694 Blame everything on Trump, but I’ll be back in a year and update on how Biden has completely destroyed this nation. Ask the children that are 3 - 7 that are traveling by themselves for more than a thousand miles because Democrats said, OPEN BORDERS AND FREE HEALTHCARE!!” How many children are trafficked?? How many children don’t make it?? It’s all YOUR FAULT and I hope you are happy... Now they are saying, “DON’T COME!!” The cages have more than 18,000 children now. They are being raped and molested inside because of Biden and the Leftists... Shame on you all. Shame... They are also bringing in other variants of COVID, and who knows what else, so we can blame that on Biden, too! How would our country look if Trump had not closed travel and the borders?? Half of us would be dead by now!! Why was HCQ not good for giving patients when Trump was in office, but in FEB, all of a sudden GREAT TO GIVE COVID PATIENTS!!?? You have been brainwashed. in my almost 60 years, one thing I have learned is the basic difference between people - there are those face adversity - losing a job, losing a loved one, losing their hearing etc.... and they trojan on - they keep going, they find a way.... and there are those that use their loss as a shield - something to hide behind- something to excuse them doing nothing. this young man found a way... and created something beautiful, something he will proud of for the rest of his life. seeing young people like this makes me optimistic about the future.
