The Y2K bug is one of the most frustrating chapters in IT history. When disaster didn't strike and planes remained in the sky, the overwhelming public response was "oh so it was just a big fat nada." Tens-of-thousands of engineers worked tirelessly, rigorously testing and patching their software, digging through numerous generations of legacy coding language, and they did such a stellar job solving the problem that the public was convinced there was no problem at all.

Ironically I wanted to set my wedding for 9/10/11.... My husband vetoed that idea. Got married 9/21/13 instead. 9/11 is definitely one of those "where were you when it happened" events. @17:36 Talking about the Queen Mother- "She took the throne herself after her husband's death in 1954".... uhhh WHAT? No, she didn't, she was on the throne as Queen *until* her husband's death, at which time her daughter Elizabeth took the throne.
@williammetz7500

Came to the comments when I heard that to see if anyone else caught it. King George VI died in 1952, at which time Elizabeth became the dowager queen (the former queen consort of the deceased king). As someone who married into the family, she had no claim to the throne, so her daughter (also named Elizabeth) became queen regnant. As the mother of the monarch, she also became the queen mother. BTW, should Camilla outlive Charles, she will be the dowager queen, but not the queen mother, as she is of course not William’s mom.

I was five years old at this time. I remember the Y2K, and then futurama ingrained it in my brain. The year 2000 was 24 years ago, almost a quarter decade. I want to go back to those simpler days, but we can't, only move forward, and remember that we age, and we will die. The journey we experience is a beautiful thing.

hopefully when we die, we can choose for our spirits to posses the bodies of our younger (toddler) selves in a parallel universe that started later than this one where everything is identical except for what you change according to your memories I for one memorized a few lottery numbers just in case that comes true

Thank you for bringing this back. This is easily going to be the decade I am going to remember most. Other things that happened in 2000 Jan 9 Malcolm In The Middle debuted on FOX Jan 10 The AOL Time Warner Merger which ended up being one of the worst mergers in history Jun 30 The Perfect Storm is released in Theatres Dec 27 After a three and a half year retirement, Mario Lemieux returned to the NHL and on that night he scored 1 goals and got 2 assists to help the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-0

2000 was also the year of the first and only crash of the Anglo-French built Concorde which saw the beginning of the end of supersonic passenger service. All Concordes were grounded for a year for refit after the accident. Coincidentally the first test flight after refit was the morning of 9/11. In the same notion, the downward pattern in air travel subsequently led to it's retirement by its operators by October 2003.
