That 2016 offseason is how championship potential flies out the window. Especially with that length + term. I believe they could've extended their window to win a title by at least 5 years if they had used that cap space for better reasons. Because it's not like the Blazers were THAT bad before the 2016 offseason. They were looking good. Unfortunately, Olshey screwed it all up.

As a blazers fan I feel hopeless. We really made a mistake in signing too many mediocre players on big contracts and that’s been hurting us ever since. Our defense has been so bad every year, but we don’t change anything. At this rate, dame will never reach the finals if he stays in Portland. I want the best for Portland, but I wouldn’t be mad if dame decided to leave. He has given it his all for this team and we haven’t given him any support. I feel really bad for him

this team still has potential. with dame resting after surgery simons has stepped up. JHart just had a 44 piece too, so depending on who portland start at the 2 you have a potential 6moty candidate. Add a top 10 pick in this years loaded draft, 35 million dollars in cap for free agency, and you've got a 1 year turnaround

They’re going about their alleged rebuild the wrong way. Clearing up cap space is one thing, but the free agent class is weak and it’s honestly a pipe dream they’ll be able to pair another star w/ Dame. Also if the Pelicans go on a run after the all-star break and make the play-in, the 1st round pick in the CJ trade won’t convey this year. The organization is playing with fire and if they fuck up this upcoming offseason, Dame is for real going to want out.
