In this captivating OVER FIVE HOURS LONG episode of Timeline Wrestling, we take a step back into the turbulent year of 1990, unraveling the stories behind the scenes from two distinctive perspectives: Jim Cornette's experiences in WCW and Bruce Prichard's journey with WWF.
On one hand, journey with one of wrestling's most celebrated managers and bookers, Jim Cornette, as he recounts the rollercoaster ride of WCW's 1990. Experience the year of seismic changes, including Black Scorpions, Mysterious Pearls, and a counterfeit Sting, as Cornette's successful tenure in WCW draws to a dramatic close.
Join Cornette as he pulls back the veil on the year's booking decisions, ratings, and his explosive confrontations with WCW head honcho, Jim Herd. As we delve into the WCW/TBS documents, Cornette will take you through the story that marked the end of his run with the company. It's a tale brimming with all the intricate details you've come to expect from Timeline, coupled with the mesmerizing passion that only Cornette can provide.
Simultaneously, step into WWF's transitional 1990 with the man who was driving its TV operations, the unforgettable Bruce Prichard. This was a year that saw a shift away from the captivating glamour of the 80s, with the company making bold attempts to prepare for the future - not all of them successful.
Witness the transformation from the era of Hulkamania to the rise of the Warrior galaxies above. Get an insider's look into the world of the red-faced preacher character that tormented babyfaces week after week. Explore everything from ICOPRO to lawsuits, from the Legion of Doom to Battle Kat, in a period that was as unpredictable as it was transformative.
Prichard will take you on an exclusive journey back to that pivotal year, delivering both the good and the bad with his signature storytelling.
This unique edition of Timeline Wrestling intertwines the dramatic fall of Cornette in WCW with the challenges and triumphs faced by Prichard in the WWF. It offers a compelling, insider's look into a critical year in wrestling history, telling the story of 1990 from the perspectives of two wrestling icons.

If Terry Taylor was as good as he thought he was, he would have gotten the Red Rooster over. There have been terrible gimmicks over the years that sounded terrible on paper but the guys got them over - Undertaker being the best example. A guy who's basically a zombie coming back as a pro wrestler.... and it was over. Why? Because Mark Calaway was good where as Terry Taylor was basically Ric Flair light, and at his best. He was never going to get over because he wasn't good. Kids liked the Red Rooster back then so there you go.

I never heard that before . What did Barnett do for the WWF?
@brianlogan4243
@brianlogan4243 Жыл бұрын
To make a long story short as possible. Barnett was THE POWER BROKER prior to Vince. After breaking wrestling into territories, Then Barnett opened the original WCW in Austrailia in the 1970's, the most lucrative territory ever. Then sold WCW as the NWA asked Jim to help with Georgia war by taking over the original TBS show and becoming a close friend Ted Turner. Barnett was fired by partial Ole Anderson and pushed out of Georgia. So he brokered the sell out of GCW with the Brisco brothers to Vince and was KEY in securing the needed tv deals across the country for Vince's national expansion. Barnett had connections in entertainment, politics (Jimmy Carter Arts dept advisor), and of course wrestling as well as being a pioneer of studio styled tv wrestling shows. If not for Ole pushing Jim out of Georgia, WWF may have never had the grease of Jim to push Hogan on the fast track to national stardom. Oh, BTW, he was fired by WWF later for back rooming with Crockett and went back to the NWA . Btw he personally brokered the deal between Ted Turner and the Crocket family to secure the buy out to Turner Entertainment. Wrestling would not be what it is today without Jim Barnett. He's sadly forgotten. @@chadk890

@BombaLuLu84 Жыл бұрын
@@brianlogan4243The sale of the TBS time slot & Georgia territory to Jim Crockett Promotions by the WWF after they bombed on TBS was for $1 million which helped Vince pay for the first WrestleMania. Barnett was indeed incredibly important for those early Hulkamania years (so was booker George Scott) unfortunately Vince has buried their contributions just like he buried how much Toots Mondt helped Vince Sr.’s career. Barnett would eventually work with McMahon again as an occasional adviser: one of the last things he advised Vince on was pushing John Cena.

4:29:48 I’m surprised that the WWE/F were allowed to use the Battle Cat name since Battle Cat™️ was a trademark of He-Man & The Masters Of The Universe. Prince Adam became He-Man and Cringer because Battle Cat™️ 🐅 when Prince Adam raised his mighty sword 🗡 “By the powers of Grey-Skull…I have the power!”🗡💥 Thundercats was the next big thing after He-Man and I liked Thundercats, though it took me a while to come around to liking them as was my fondness to He-Man (I gave in when I realised that He-Man wasn’t being shown on TV anymore). But as an adult I realise that He-Man could kick Lion-O’s ass (just like my mum said back in the 80’s). They did updated versions of He-Man but none were as good as the original Masters Of The Universe series, the only one to do it justice is the one Netflix did and it was a little more for adult due to language and content which is really for people around my age who were fans of the original show back in the mid 80’s.

The fact that the Road Warriors had so much stroke in the business that they were booked to go over on their "way out" match in the first place is crazy! Not very many people would get that kind of treatment.

2:15:39 Wrestling card gassed! I started to read the newspaper clip and soon as I saw it was an ice rink I knew the ammonia gas had leaked from the refrigeration system that makes the ice as ammonia is used as a refrigerant (not used so much these days) as I own 2 refrigeration businesses (I inherited my grandfather’s business which is in it’s 72yr of business and bought a 2nd one and instead of bringing all under one name I thought it was better to keep it’s original name as it has a good reputation & have 2 businesses for customers to choose from) and I’am a refrigeration & HVAC engineer by trade (HVAC stands for heating, ventilation & air conditioning)

Possibly the best Timeline combo we would get. Jim Cornette and Bruce Prichard both were involved behind the scenes in their respective companies. So much insight to every detail and they both are extremely believable instead of some of the other folks involved with these interviews. Also they are great storytellers too!

Today, there's only 2 major American promotions with large rosters and only a few hours of TV a week. Back then, WWF maybe had 40 full time wrestlers split into A, B, and sometimes C house shows. Everybody wanted to work the shows Hogan was on b/c he was selling out arenas, therefore, bigger payoffs. Everybody would come in for 2 days of shooting TV shows every 3 weeks for Superstars and Weestling Challenge. They would shoot 3 weejs of TV then have matches they would put on Prime Time Wrestling or comp tapes as well as some for the live crowd. That meant people were getting 5 or 6 hours of wrestling if you bought a ticket. The PPVs being spaced out meant more ppl were gonna buy them every 3 or 4 months instead of buying them monthly. I wish it was still like that today, but there's too many bodies per promotion and not enough options available to go elsewhere to earn a living.

Always. Prichard is also an excellent interview as well and gives a fantastic counterpoint to the WCW talk. Both of Cornette's podcasts and Prichard's STW are mandatory listening for a complete history of pro wrestling. Bruce is always a bit more diplomatic than Cornette, but I think it's because he genuinely doesn't want to bury people if he had personal issues. With Cornette, he will drive a stake in your hurt if you don't add extra cheese to his burger.

@drseussofporn
@drseussofporn Жыл бұрын
@garymck5181 I'll give you Warrior, though it's difficult to find someone that hasn't buried him. His heat with Meltzer is usually due to the inaccuracies of his reporting, at least according to Bruce. And Jarrett, I never really heard him bury Jeff. He said they had heat due to the ways Jeff came in and out of the WWE in potentially unprofessional ways, but he always praised Jeff's ring work and mic skills. He's even said they have no problems now at all, he just didn't like the way Jeff did business back in the day. Hell, for a 5 year window in the 90s it almost looked like Jarrett was going to give Marty Jannetty's in-out record a run for the money. Of course, Jannetty was hell bent to keep that record.

3:49:05 I don’t see what is so controversial about Million Dollar Man buy Sapphire because it’s not like he’s buying her as a slave he’s bought her services as an employee and is no different than if I was to work for one company and someone offers me a job for more money but first they have to buy out my contract from my current employer. That’s the problem with America, they don’t see it as a man buying out a woman’s contract to have him pay her more to work for him they see it as a white man buying a black woman who’s gonna work long hours for free
