It got annoying waiting for a whole 45 seconds before the next Candy Crush expose would play. -I'm glad that I didn't expect a doc about Okinawa when I clicked on this, but instead thought, "I hope this is just a broad overview of major and not so major conflicts of WW2", or else I would've been very disappointed!

Okinawa and Iwo Jima were truly worthless and pointless battles. The first and only long range heavy bomber mission from Okinawa against mainland Japan was on the final day of WWII, August 15! What a worthless waste of lives and time Okinawa was. They should have blockaded it like what happened with Rabaul and Truk. At least the Philippines 1944-45 were justified because that was actual U.S. territory and the lives of Filipino civilians were the responsibility of the USA throughout WWII. Iwo Jima was a waste of lives also. The escort fighters only operated for about TWO WEEKS in March 1945 and then they were cancelled forever because they realized that the fighters can't handle the power and speed and altitude of B-29s and they ended up being more likely to be lost through accidents than B-29s and the airfield at Iwo Jima turned out to be very poor for fighters. The Navy could not use Iwo Jima because there was nowhere where they could dock on Iwo Jima. We got a nice photograph from Iwo Jima. So strange how Nimitz never ever gets criticized for being the meatgrinder he was.

The inaccuracies in the Battle of The Atlantic segment do not inspire me that the rest are any more accurate. The major problem in the early days of this battle was that the Allies seem to have forgotten all the lessons of WWI. The convoy system was NOT implemented straight away, causing the loss of many vessels. The navy did not want to provide vessels and when they did the initial tactic was to chase down any suspected contact depriving the convoys of their escort allowing a very small number of U Boats to claim catastrophic amounts of shipping. This programs suggests that the convoy system was fully implemented from day one. This is BS. Do you own research. Try reading the Battle Of the Atlantic by Jonathan Dimbleby

The first battle lost by the Japanese was in China but the Australians and US forces at Milne bay, the most easterly point of the huge island of New Guinea. From then they slowly won all the island. The Australians did the same to the slightly smaller island of Borneo. Finishing the war with no losses and a long string of humiliating victories against the Imperial Forces of Japan.

Japan failed so much because their idea of good strategy wasnt to plan for possible american moves they just assumed 1 possibility. They didnt have back up plans and just would simply put say if we do this theyll do that. Also the zeros seen in movie midway shouldnt be there. A6M's disnt see action in midway as US war was seen as secondary campaign to Japanese and A5M's were what were used most

Let's be honest shall we? The decision to drop the two nuclear bombs on Japan had nothing whatsoever to do with "saving lives". The emperor could have come on his hands and knees to Pottsdam and the US would have pretended not to see him. There was no way they were going to miss the chance to demonstrate their nuclear bombs. Japan was already beaten and it would not even have been necessary to invade the home islands to secure surrender, just knock out the electricity, the trains, the port facilities etc and wait for the government to collapse. The real reason why the US wanted to drop the bombs was to establish themselves as the incontestable major military power in the postwar world. Much like the much later PNAC plan to establish "a new American century" that led to 911, the invasions (or attacks) of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Pakistan, (and others). The Truman administration wanted to use its position of military superiority to rule the world. But then when Russia got the bomb much sooner than expected that dream fizzled. Seems like world peace thrives much better when military power is fairly evenly distributed around the globe and diminishes when power is concentrated in too few hands.

American soldiers should have been trained to properly detain and imprison Japanese POW's. I see scenes of surrendering Japanese soldiers with clothes on, and I would not trust them. Many many many of them would hide grenades, and would detonate the grenade once next to an American soldier. They should have held the POWs at gun point from a distance, then ordered them to take off ALL of their clothes and hats, then come forward. You never know who was hiding a grenade or weapon.
