Can't say I agree with this doc'. Calling C'well a dictator is a bit of a crude caricature. He was no dictator! Three times in the next five years he called parliaments of one kind of another, striving to achieve a lasting constitutional settlement. In 1657, the Protectorate Parliament urged Ollie to take the crown and thereby ensure a lasting settlement. A more ambitious or self-interested man would probably have accepted it.

OC died in 1658. Charles was crowned in 1661. Nearly three years of history reduced to four or five sentences. Seems inadaquate to me.

I went to a dentist in S/W Mt. named Cromwell. As he was getting set up for Our appointment I asked "Cromwell - wasn't there someone famous by that name in history"? He said yes and He was a distant relative, but He didn't like to admit it. Later I looked it up on Wikipedia and learned about (Oliver Cromwell) and as I read up on Him I could see why the dentist didn't like to admit their relationship. Yup,! G-G 😀😄😁

This is a sub-standard history of Cromwell and his impact. The caricatures depict everyone as a villain and Charles II as some sort of godsend? What utter nonsense. Charles I was corrupt and was killed. The Parliament became corrupt and was dissolved by Cromwell. Charles II was brought back because the English lacked the imagination to form a republic.

ehhhh, yea, i've heard that rationale... but honestly, my husband and spent 6 wonderful days in London and the current royal family was not at ALL what lured me over. i went for the history and the gastropubs. buck palace was just meh. the War Rooms and The Tower of London were THE MOST interesting sights. i'm fascinated by british monarchs of the PAST, not this current bunch of mamby pambys 🙄
