The story of all living lives. It'll be all of us someday and that thought is kind of depressing. I hope Nirvana is real and I'll eventually reach enlightment and never to be born again. Life is suffering.

some of these beautiful men were queer. Most were not. But they were able to show affection for friends and teammates with close physical contact, without embarrassment. Then the sickness of a certain way of thinking about masculinity destroyed those bonds. I hope that death grip will be loosened someday but don't feel much confidence about change. All of us--queer, hetero, men and women are poorer for the loss.

What are you talking about. Everything has changed. Gays have got everything they wanted but still it's not enough.

The most amazing gay photo was the two handsome guys kissing under The bridge. All the other ones show how lovely is to be very close to the one you love. Gay or not the most important is to be happy and share your feelings truly with another man. Thanks for sharing.

My very homophobic father had a professional photograph of himself with a shipmate during WWII, hidden in an ammo box. They are intimately posed facing each other, thighs interlocked, hands on each others ribs looking at the camera with pure joy on their faces. I suspect that his friend died when their Destroyer was torpedoed. He never got over it, he was never as happy with his very difficult wife, my awful Mother. I think that photos like these serve to de-stigmatize men loving men. Some are clearly just buddies, others are much more intimate. If photos like these were more accessible to people over the years perhaps my partner of 34 years and I could walk hand in hand without offending anyone. I'm 74 and I've never been free to live as everyone else can. Even though we've lived in very gay friendly cities, as we do now, even the most inoffensive expressions of love, holding hands, or a kiss goodbye on the cheek on our front porch, are fraught with the danger of offending someone. It is time for change!

Funny how there was a genuine affection years ago between men that seemed to fizzle out in the 70s - 00s as if it was considered too gay, now it seems to be coming back, I’ve noticed more younger guys comfortable to hug each other and hold each other
@Jack-eo5fn3 ай бұрын
Think it’s because the label ‘Gay’ was created in the late 60’s. Before then straight men were open and close to gay men because the feeing had no sexual overtones. Once it was labeled, straight men distanced themselves out of fear, shame or peer rejection.
@Skorobogatyi3 ай бұрын
@@Jack-eo5fn That's right! But heterosexual men also have a need for friendly hugs and close physical contact, not sexual at all. I work with young football players, and they reject conventions in moments of strong emotional uplift, when they celebrate a goal or a victory! Joy turns out to be stronger than prejudice!
@TayWoode3 ай бұрын
@@Jack-eo5fn good point yet at the same time wasn’t there meant to be a liberal sexual revolution where everyone could express themselves without persecution? It seems more younger men are more accepting now, some even say they have a gay best friend they’ve known since childhood
@Jack-eo5fn3 ай бұрын
@@TayWoode , I think you’re right about that if you’re speaking about today and recent years. I think the original labeling of gays otherized them for 30 to 40 years but was finally overcome.

Young men today are a lot more comfortable with eachother, at least around here in northern europe, and seems to care less what society thinks.
@grahamrankin5557Ай бұрын
Lovely! I'm 79 now and apart from growing up in the years when homosexuality was not only stigmatised it was illegal, and one could be incarcerated for following one's natural urges. The social changes that have occurred, allowed me to meet my soulmate, and now together for 28 years, I hope it never reverts to those old times. Cheers! 🌈

Men were more comfortable being close to each other in those days! Feeling less afraid to express emotions and appreciation towards their fellow man. Sadly society has demonized and scandalized such relationships between male friends! Forcing them to be seen more with women to validate their masculinity.

50 or 60 years of advertising playing on our emotional deficiencies to sell us products that we don’t need or want, or even make us sick. And worst of all, breaking the bonds of companionship and love. TV is pure evil.

You have no proof of that. Many of the photos may have been of gay lovers, or gay friends, constrained by the prejudices which are clearly still evident.
