Washington, D.C. Plane Crash: Damning Report ‘Exposes’ Black Hawk Helicopter ‘Defying’ No-Fly Zone

A U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter collided with a passenger plane over Arlington, causing both aircrafts to crash into the Potomac River. The helicopter was reportedly flying outside its approved flight path and at an incorrect altitude. The crash occurred during a time of staffing shortages at the air traffic control tower at Washington's Reagan National Airport. A single air traffic controller was handling both helicopter and airplane traffic, which normally requires two controllers. At least 40 bodies have been recovered, and two black boxes have been retrieved. The NTSB is investigating the cause of the tragic incident.

I can tell you that the helo pilots probably didn't see the plane. The plane was on their 9'o clock while the initial ATC instruction had asked them to look straight ahead. This would be especially bad if the pilots were wearing the night vision equipment and/or were mistook the other plane for the one they should have been looking at.

What we do know is over 67 souls lost their lives, that's 67 families whose lives will never be the same! We do know that the pilot only had 500 hours of fly time experience. In the recent past, at least 2000 hours of fly experience was required in order to fly that type of aircraft! I’m a huge fan of pilots that pay attention to their surroundings, remain at an appropriate altitude, and don’t fly directly into the side of a huge, well lit passenger plane, killing 60+ innocent souls. We all have to realize that the role of women in the military should be limited. As a former professional pilot, I can unfortunately see about 20 critical problems contributing to this tragedy. Namely more and more commercial flights coupled with fewer and fewer ATC personnel to control them. And the chopper crew wearing night-vision goggles which severely restrict peripheral vision. I made this comment the moment I saw the Helicopter flight path. Either Blackhawk crew were utterly stupid or intentional. I saw the 2D flight path of both aircraft in some channel just prior to impact. Initially AA 5342 at 500 ft altitude descending. Black Hawk was at 200 ft Altitude and slowly it raised itself to 250, 300 and finally 350 ft , while AA 5342 lowered to 350 ft. It Looked like All while Blackhawk kept changing vector several times to be in position to intercept AA 5342. During this brief episode, Helicopter made several vector changes and altitude gaining which looked like they were positioning to intercept the AA flight. Approx minute before impact, helicopter changed its vector turning 30 deg right turn to intersect with the AA maintaining same altitude of 350 ft. Millitary aircraft have built in radar and vectoring capabilities to intercept other aircraft. From the flight path blackhawk, it more looked like it was intercepting the big plane. Something definitely fishy here. I understand many analysts are giving benefit of doubt to the black Hawk crew, night vision goggles and other reasons, but for professional military pilots it simply doesnt addup.
