If you think the defense contractors won't be happy to sell another plane, you'd be wrong. The last order for 17 more of the F/A-18 from Boeing will likely just get changed to 18 of them. Or some order for the F-35 will grow. It doesn't even matter who actually shot it down, or who the Houthis or the US Navy say shot it down, or if the engine blew up, or a software bug brought it down, and they don't want to admit that. A few dollars will get shifted around or added to the defense budget, and an old airplane is replaced by a new airplane. Business as usual. If 3 more come down in a short time period, then the friendly fire story cannot be believed. One time, maybe, but again it doesn't matter. Losing a plane can happen anytime for any reason, and it changes nothing.
