May truth reach this interviewer. He has been wanting to be “closer to truth” for years now wandering from one corner of the globe to the other, interviewing myriad non-Islamic scholars, with whom his interviews last but a mere 30 min or less, and conclude inconclusively. And here he has a 4 hr plus long set on interviews !!! And so it is exciting and a yearning hope that this gentleman has finally arrived upon the truth InshaAllah. If he accepts Islam he may well be the gateway through which many will follow in after him. As to beloved Hamza Yusuf, no one would have done this interview better. Not even close.

For the interviewer, a great resource for understanding the 'problem of evil' as per the Islamic understanding would be a lecture by Jeffrey Lang 'Purpose of Life'. (It's available on KZbin.) Or read his book 'Even Angels Ask'.

Around 2hr45min, when the host was pressing the Sheikh about God allowing/creating evil, I was expecting Sheikh Hamza to present the story of creation in the Quran chapter 2 verse 30- where the Angels ask “why create this being that will spill blood and spread corruption on earth” the Host’s question has already been asked in Heaven coz they knew this business of free-will and intellect is heavy business. And God placing Adam in Heaven and instructed him not to go near the tree of “eternal life and eternal rule” and Adam makes his first independent choice. God intended to place human beings on Earth to he his representatives. This was all Gods plan and he made us exposed to all angelic and evil forces. God could have made us like the angels and program us never to disobey him. Could have made us clones of one another and all of us believers as he says in the Quran. This environment on Earth is DESIGNED to be a hardship place, a test.

Indeed, you don't come to Islam by your intellect alone. Is a favour from Allah. Man of his intellect still an anthiest is just amazing.

Great interview. The individual soul originates from the Immaterial Spirit, similar to how one lamp lights another. This process does not involve any splitting or fragmentation of the soul.

I agree, the Quran contains simple meanings to make it easy for the person having average mindset but when we come accross this Ayah mentioned in the Quran that ponder upon my creation Whenever I came accross this translation that good men will be sitting on couches in heaven, I wondered that how come when the world has become so advanced then there the men in heaven would be sitting on couches. Are we supposed to go in less advanced time. But logic helped me to understand that the Quran was reveled to the people ,who could only understand the Quran through the time relatable examples From there I understood that how much depth every word in Qurain contains and only Shaikh Hamza Yousuf like people can explain Islam and Quran from a very strong philosophical perspective.

Someone please forward this the Jordan Peterson, Hamza Yusuf really deserved more attention from him as a source of learning about islamic ideas instead of entertaining the likes of Pseudo celebrity characters from the Muslim online space that he has been wasting his time with.

He did an interview with Sheikh but doubt that has changed his racist views on Muslim. It was great interview too and unveiled how ignorant peterson really is.
