This is the third reported incident of a fire at Maha Kumbh 2025. Last month, massive cylinder blasts destroyed tents in Sector 19 of the Mela ground. The explosions were captured by train passengers from the Phaphamau bridge. Mela Cops Issue Fire Safety Advisory Following Tent Blaze At Maha Kumbh For gas cylinder fires, the advisory recommended among devotees, particularly those preparing meals, to keep the cylinder upright, exit the area, and attempt to extinguish the fire with a wet cloth or fire extinguisher while working to stop any gas leakage. The advisory also cautioned against storing flammable materials such as petrol, kerosene, diesel, gas, or candles inside tents. It also warned against using non-standard or leaking gas cylinders, burying gas cylinders in ground, or using plastic or synthetic fabrics for constructing tents. Open flames like stoves and havan kunds are strictly prohibited inside tents. "Never add oil to burning lamps, stoves, or gas burners, and do not store petrol or other highly flammable materials and avoid cooking food outdoors during strong winds," the advisory stated. Mela police have also urged devotees to prioritize assisting others during a fire incident rather than recording videos.
