I only now realise how well this song is crafted... I can see three different themes in this song : - a Mexican theme conveyed by the guitar riff (or bajo sexto ?) and the different percussions instruments (1:49 Maracas ?) - a Western / Cowboy theme conveyed by the whistle tune and the trumpets (0:28) - a Sci-Fi theme conveyed by the bassline (2:39) and the progressive trance music (2:53) Furthemore, all three themes are coherent with the design of the map Mexican Mission and the overarching theme of futuristic time travel in Timesplitters. They are adroitly knitted together with different sound layers that fit together well despite belonging to different musical genres. Finally, the song plays with different combinations of the three themes to prevent itself from becoming stale. For example : from 0:59 to 1:13, there are the guitar riff and percussions to highlight the Mexican theme alone, and after 1:13 come back the whistle and techno music to recall the Sci-Fi and Western themes.

Brilliant comment. I feel this is a reflection of art and media in general in the period. Everything had a bit more handcrafted passion and that human element that just made it so authentic and unique. I was a child playing this game (like maybe 6-10, 25 now) but the whole period seems to be the same, everything seemed to be more fleshed out and attentive back in the 2000s and late nineties. You just don't seem to get that anymore, everything seems so fixed and robotic now.

Nice analysis! When I relistened to these songs I was amazed at how good they actually were. I knew they were catchy but I didn't realize they were pretty long.
