What amazes me is how so many characters can have so much personality shown in a matter of seconds. While modern games can’t even show one in a 8 hour story Edit: Yes, it’s not perfect: it’s definitely dated in some regards and may be a simple archetype or one personality trait. However, I still love it and they put in that little effort and care when they didn’t need to, it means a lot and makes the game that much more memorable.

Midnight club 2, every quote the rivals say, explain their backstory so much with so little, just voice and also fitting music. Same goes for old, good games, minimal games. EDF 4 also masters this, it just uses voices and the context of the missions to explain so much. This era is gone because the people who design such games are gone or silenced

Creating games was quite the skilled work. Now everything gets easier and easier and hardware becomes so strong, that people don't need to be skilled anymore, because the hardware is so forgiving. Limits need creative ways to fully implement your idea. Nowadays there are not too many limits anymore. Also since publisher realised how much money you can make from games, they got greedy and want to make sure to get as much money as possible, meaning a game is a flop if it doesn't reach the majority of players. In the past there were a lot of niche games, that don't cater to everyone, but that was okay back then. If you release a game now, it always has to be suited for at least everyone that likes the main genre and needs to make maximum profit, that's why a lot of the decisions are forced upon the devs from the publishers, that don't have any idea about the process or the creative idea.

What a game. Stone Golem was so overpowered if you had character traits enabled. And I think zombie characters were immune to instant kills from headshots, it just knocks their head off. The number of times you played as a monkey was tracked as a game stat.

My favorite FPS franchise of all time! It basically perfected the formula that made Goldeneye on the N64 so addictive! No boring open worlds and no tedious farming for xp or items - just nonstop action dripping with tons of personality and charm. Besides, what other FPS let you set up a deathmatch between a snow man, a ninja monkey, a T-Rex, a Bear, and the freaking Ginger Bread Man!? Edit: and Arial Davinci is basically flesh pits Mileena nearly a decade before flesh pits Mileena, lol!

that was my child hood too, primarily ps2/ps3/DS with a bit of wii, pc gaming, and 64 mixed in there. feel like the golden age wouldve been anywhere in the 2000s and early 2010s. a lot of my fondest gaming memories were playing playstation 3, nintendo DS, and this game on ps2. hell, i started with time splitters future perfect, this is pretty much the first video game that i ever really got into. period. i obsessed over this game as a child, and i really wanna get back into it.

Elden ring felt like I was playing a drawn-out and worse version of darksouls 3/Bloodborne combined. The new zelda game looks like a rip off, lol. Shit literally looks like a 20 dollar expansion pack of breath of the wild. Armored core 6 is really not that great either. It's basically a double A studio made game. rewind. yknow the original team from free radical did come back together for a while with a secret time splitters project in the works, but they eventually disbanded again. this has happened over the course of the past half decade probably.

pretty much. most games that include a lot of time travel with more emphasis on the time part of it instead of the travel part of it will usually get that treatment. ofc, time splitters did an incredible job with it, while a lot of media and games doing time travel stuff at the very least doesnt get the diversity of time periods quite right.
