Join Academy Award®-winning actor Brie Larson, Academy Award-nominated actor Naomi Watts and New York Times best-selling author Jeannette Walls for a spirited conversation about their upcoming film, “The Glass Castle." The conversation is moderated by New York Times book critic, Parul Sehgal.
"The Glass Castle" is based on Walls’s critically acclaimed memoir of the same name. Chronicling the adventures of an eccentric, resilient and tight-knit family, “The Glass Castle” recounts the unconventional upbringing Walls and her siblings had as part of a dysfunctional family. Joining the conversation for the question-and-answer portion of the evening is director and screenwriter Destin Daniel Cretton.

I have to say that I can't help but find it incredibly appropriate that both Naomi Watts and Brie Larson were involved in this project. Consider the fact that both of them came from uh, shall we say "humble" beginnings. At one point Brie only had three items of clothing and Naomi's mother threatened to send both her and her brother into foster care so that Naomi's grandparents would take them in since they had literally _no_ money!

I cried many times throughout this interview. What an incredibly moving conversation about what it means to be thoughtful about having a sense of humanity by eliminating regret when looking to our past to looking more objectively to see how it's uncharted and often mystifyingly unbelievable paths has lead us to our current circumstances. Thank you for cultivating and invigorating our culture with talks like this about beautiful, raw, and compelling storytelling.

I usually do not watch these kinds of shows because so many of the "interview" type settings in which actors are interviewed seem so phony and pretentious. The moderators in such shows, to me, seem to just fawn over the actors and stroke their egos. This was different. Brie Larson and Naomi Watts came off as real genuine people, not the images we see on the screens. I feel like I actually met these people and know them. Jeannette Walls is as real as it gets. I had no idea who she was until I watched this. Now I have to read the book and see the movie. Her story hits home with me due to certain parallels in our lives. I was born in Welch, West Virginia, and even lived on Hobart Street. We moved to Missouri when I was in the first grade however. My life, like many others, has been full of ups and down, happiness and heartbreak, good health and ill, hope and despondency, but I do not have the talent Jeannette has to tell the story.

I'm from McDowell County I have lived in Welch and know live in Twin branch,Davy 7 miles on rt7 I lived back in forth my grandmother lived in an apartment on Hobert St. It was right up the stairs near the lil gas station when u come in to Welch on the left after u come under the train tracks there the guys who owns still is 92 years old. I wonder if Jennette remembers the guy I'm 33 I'm Mamie Kingsley my mother was Kimberly Potter before she married my dad.His father was a preacher at the Methodist Church down below Welch high School but it was for me my middle school n they kept the name maroon waves. It's a small town Welch n Davy but if u could see the pictures from the older days u couldn't walk down the street without bumping in to people arms it reminds me of streets in New York a lil. But I love the movie it proves great people come from are small lil county. It proves are people in this county could do great things rather then say they can't because of background n were u come from. People say bad thing about Welch n the county n the state but in away I get made sometimes and say maybe if I lived some were else but I couldn't leave this small lil place everybody know everybody. N my family here . The movie meaning to me was never be afraid of were u came from or your background.

I know what you mean about Welch being like a little New York City. I remember the crowds, the traffic, all the people going here and there. My father grew up in Welch where his father, Joseph Straus Butler ran the local Salvation Army mission. My dad was Milton Butler. Though we moved to Missouri when I was six years old, I have a lot of crystal clear memories of Welch. We used to go back to see my grandmother, Maggie Butler, who lived in an apartment building right beside the War Memorial building. I can remember the smells of cooking when we go up the stairs to her apartment. My aunt Jane lived with her and she used to work at one of the movie theaters in Welch. Sometimes I go there on Saturdays and she would get me a coke and popcorn and get me all set up to see a movie. I do wish I could write about all I remember. Though the town is not what it used to be, I left part of my heart there.
