I'm a 70's generation, when i was a kid nobody has a digital watch, people had a pocket watches, that was very fancy. When I saw a Casio F91 first time that was a space shuttle for me. But this Timex is very nice, that thing is super durable. I like new style of production, i like plastic watches....off course,that's not a plastic, that's composite. I'm talking about G's off course. Modern watches, especially Casio are made of a composite rubber and there's a reason for that. And that reason is first - weight because the weight of the plastic watch and a metal watch is uncomparable, nobody wants more than 200 grams on the wrist with a piece of steel. And second - strength because stainless steel strength is not even close to composite materials (Marathon is the example), when i hit the doors with a stainless steel watch it's gonna be a disaster for that watch, but with rubber watch like G nothing is gonna happen to the watch. And by the way, it's much easier to produce a plastic watch than metal watch. Nice video Simucom, just keep going

i just found this watch that my parents bought me over 20 years ago ( i was 9 or 10 back then) , that is my first watch i replaced the battery and it still work, the only difference i see with the newer one in that mine says atlantis 100 instead of Expedition, it is pretty beat up tho i dont think that it is going to replaced my F91w as a daily wear bc i cannot wear metal watches at work and the fact that the F91w is so goddamn awesome

I wondered a lot about why digital watches are made out of plastic while even the cheap analog Casio's are metal. 40 $ can buy you a solid metal analog Casio with mineral glass and 50 - 100 meters of water resistance. The best answer I could find is usually with the digitals tend to have non-conventional looking cases, so probably it will be tougher and more expensive to produce all the variety and odd shapes. Plus for analog watches, probably they just recycle the cases and put a different dial and set of hands and they have created a new watch. I like your videos, very good content.

I agree. Unfortunately a lot of Casios are only painted 'metal'; their bracelets and casebacks are steel but the case itself more often then not is plastic. A real shame because I bet there would be plenty of people who would pay $15-$20 more for an all metal case.

Available or not available... One thing is for sure - I always can browse for the video to see the Atlantis. Less is more. I'm not completely sure about the metal construction... I would prefer this beater watch as is.

I've seen the origial Atlantis from the 90's and it's beautiful. All in metal (including the bracelet), high contrast display, and easier to push buttons. I'm a fan of the design as it's really original and it stands out from the crowd. Negatives for me: green display - I wish they upgraded it to a regular higher contrast like on the ironman; the module is also an older one; you have to hold the button for the light to stay on. It's not press and release. This also means you can't operate it at night; lastly, the buttons are just too hard to press. They need to update this model to make it more relevant. For $60, you can get a basic g shock like the dw6900 with 200m WR, mineral glass, easier to push buttons, dedicated light button, and a watch that is indestructible. For $80 you can get the gw6900 with solar battery, atomic time keeping and better module with some added features. So, payig $40-$60 for a plastic, toy-like watch, is not that great of a deal.

Unpopular opinion time. I have a G-Shock G-7710 and it was cool while it lasted. The reality is that G-Shocks tend to last until the battery needs changed. Where G-Shocks differ from normal digital watches is how unnecessarily overbuilt they are, the strap has "tabs" that overlap the metal case back, so in order to unscrew the case and change your battery you need to take the straps off. The trouble is they are so hard to get back on that I ruined the springbar hole, and the watch is now unwearable. Normal digital watches are tough enough for the activities most people do everyday, and when you need to change the battery it's much easier when they have conventional styled lugs like this Timex. For this reason alone I consider normal digital watches like this longer lasting than basic G-Shocks.

Agreed. Digital watches should be made in metal more. Casio seems the make more of them recently. (But go overboard a bit with the prices.)

I prefer the black version. Not because it's lighter (they're both so light that the difference in weight is negligible), but I just feel that the color scheme looks better.

Robert De Niro had a similar watch in the movie The Fight. I think this watch is a good accessory. And it complemented the image of the bandit created by Robert De Niro well. The hero of De Niro constantly takes risks and leads a slightly different lifestyle, and it is logical to believe that he does not need to wear expensive Swiss watches. De Niro himself has worn rolexes in other films more than once.

I spent much of my time watching knife reviews so although I love watches and I know a little about them I don't as much as I know about knives. So I am curious to ask: Are digital watches like this respect and/or considered by the watch community or the vast majority it is just too snob to consider something like this? Because If would guess most people in that world prefer expensive analog watches.

There are snobs in any community, even in the knife community. There are even snobs in the "Affordable Watch" community which is odd to me. While the opinion of a snob doesn't matter to me, I think the Atlantis is considered a respectable watch. What really matters is if you like it.

It's not particularly good quality. In fact it's quite cheaply made, but it's durable enough like most other watches from Timex. If you don't care about the model then you'll be fine with either version. I prefer the black resin one. If they made the bracelet version with an all metal case then it would be a completely different story.
