Al Hartman and Rod Humphreys loaned me a Timex Sinclair 2068 computer and a Zebra Systems OS-64 cartridge to study so that I can design an EPROM-based cartridge board to go with a batch of OS-64 ROMs that Al has left over from his days at Zebra Systems. This is an unboxing video of the gear that they sent me.

Man, I lived again the moment when I unpacked mine! It was not 50 years ago as you mentioned, but it was over 30. It seems that it was just yesterday!

An underrated machine, It was really an an enhanced Sinclair Spectrum (UK) This is the platform where I learned BASIC and later the "innards” of it's Zilog Z80 Proc. , Z80 being a major force in the CP/M world (TRS-80 among them)

Nice unboxing, mate! I have one of these awesomely under-rated machines as well. Mine's had a Spectrum ROM-switch mod that gives me the Spectrum mode internal to the machine, without using the cartridge slot. The ROM switcher has been a wee bit flaky lately,. but I can still use it, so I can't complain too much I guess. :) Still use it and play around with programming and some "Spectrum Exploring". I too will be watching that other video. :)

I would be very interested in purchasing the OS-64 cart with Spectrum ROM - did you complete the project? (If so, where can I purchase one?) Cool video!! Thanks for posting it!!

Are any OS64 carts still available? I've been looking for one just recently having become interested in the 2068.

Do you have a video on what an eprom is? Also, is the "American" Spectrum the Timex 2000? tx!

As it turned out the Timex 2000 would have been a straight clone of the Spectrum in a silver case. It wouldn't pass FCC as it was, so Timex decided to upgrade the 2000 to pass FCC, and it became the 2068. They ended up using the already made Timex 2000 cases as the Timex Sinclair 1500.

Where can I get OS64 cartridges?

Mark Scheck: I don’t have the ROM data for those any more, personally. I just borrowed the TS2068 and that OS64 cartridge temporarily while I developed the new PCB. I’ve emailed Al Hartman, who loaned me that OS64 cartridge, but I haven’t heard back from him. I’ll reply again here if and when I ever learn more. Good luck!

@Mark Scheck I haven't talked to either of them in quite a while. I was just borrowing the TS2068 in this video for a short while to test out a cartridge PCB that I was asked to design. I don't have any ongoing involvement in TS2068 stuff at this time. It is cool that y'all have an active user group.
